Thyboron (DKTYB)

The harbour is contained within moles which extend along the W side of Thyboron Kanal. It is irregular in shape and divided into the following interconnected parts, listed from N to S: Nordre Inderhavn, Mellemhavn, Badehavn, Sondre Inderhavn, Forhavn, Beddingshavn, Vestre Inderhavn, Yderhavn, Lossehavn, Industrifiskerihavn and Vaerftshavn.

Thyboron port, situated on the NE side of Thyboron Tange, borders the W side of Thyboron Kanal.

LOA 100m, beam 15m, draught 6.0m.

Outer Anchorages: Anchorage can be obtained in Sondre Dyb but is prohibited on leading lines and in leading light sectors. Prohibited anchorages: Numerous submarine pipelines are laid across the channel between Yderhavn and Industrifiskerihavn; anchorage is prohibited in the vacinity.

The harbour may be approached from either the North Sea or from Limfjorden and is entered directly from Thyboron Kanal. Approach from the North Sea: Depths are constantly changing over a sand bar, known locally as Havrevlen, which extends across the seaward entrance, but with local knowledge it will normally be possible to navigate through the entrance to Thyboron Kanal in a depth of not less than 8.0m. A minimum depth of about 6.0m is normally found on the leading lines; within the bar there are depths of more than 8.0m. Approach from Limfjorden: Depths of 4.0m for approach through Limfjorden.

Pilotage is provided by Limfjorden Pilots and is compulsory for vessels over 200GT and for vessels over LOA 35m. Pilotage should be requested at least 6 hours in advance. Pilot boards in position 56°43'N 008°11'E (outside the bar).

The mean tidal range is less than 0.5m but the water level may be raised in SW to W winds and lowered in NE to SE winds by up to 1.0m. Tidal streams and flow in Thyboron Kanal set directly across the harbour entrance, and outgoing stream being strongest in that vicinity; during storms rates in excess of 6kts may be experienced.

Tugs are not normally necessary but can be arranged through the pilot station.

Traffic regulations: Speed limit within the harbour entrance is 3kts. The Order on Rules of Navigation in Certain Danish Waters states that: Thyboron Kanal, from the North Sea entrance to the open waters of Nissum Bredning, is regarded as a "narrow channel" in which special rules apply. An inbound vessel, having made a sound signal of one long blast to indicate the intention of entering, has precedence over an outbound vessel, the latter being required to wait until the incoming vessel is clear. This precedence also applies to vessels entering and leaving Thyboron Havn. Ferries crossing the channel must adjust their passage so as to avoid danger of a collision with a ship transiting the channel but if such a danger arises The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea apply.
