Svaneke (DKSVA)

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Svaneke is located on the E coast of the island of Bornholm, approx 100nm ESE of Copenhagen.

LOA 45m, beam 8.5m, draught 4.0m.

The entrance channel with a depth of 4.4m, leads in a WNW direction between 2 breakwaters which extend ESE from Yderhavn. The outside basin entrance width is 12.2m, depth 4.2m and the inner basin entrance width is 8.2m, depth 3.5m. The recommended approach is from the NE keeping the light structure (green square wooden building, 4m in height), situated on the S shore of the bay, 0.1nm SSW of the entrance, ahead bearing approx 215°. The course leads W of Maageflak, some rocks with a depth of 3.4m over them, which lie on the S side of the bay 0.1nm offshore. When the vessel is approx 0.125nm from the light structure the vessel should alter course WNW to bring Svaneke leading lights, (grey posts, with elevations of 6m and 5m, 18m apart), situated on the W side of the harbour, into line bearing 297°. This leads through the entrance passing close S of the N breakwater on the head of which a light, (red metal column, 5m in height) is exhibited. At night, only vessels with local knowledge should attempt to enter, approaching from seaward in the white sector of the light on the S shore of the bay, bearing between 208.5° and 222°. Vessels approaching from the E should not bring the harbour leading lights into line from that direction as they lead over Maageflak.

Pilots are available by day and require 24, 12 and 4 hours notice prior to arrival.

Svaneke Light is exhibited from a grey square tower, 18m in height, situated on Sandkaas Odde. Two fog signals are sounded alternately from the lighthouse. In the event of Svaneke harbour being closed, a black ball will be displayed by day on a mast N of the entrance, at night 3 red fixed lights will be shown disposed vertically. When the lock gate leading to the inner basin is closed a white fixed light is shown below the front leading light.

Prolonged NE winds can raise the water level by 1.0m; S and SW winds can lower it by 1.0m.

Local fishing boats may assist with towage.

Lyngby Radio (the only coast radio station in Denmark) is recommended for passing messages. The station works throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible.

Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs Officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

There is no demand for an ETA by Port Authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.
