Hanstholm (DKHAN)

The port consists of an outer harbour and 8 basins, handles general cargo, Ro-Ro, dry bulk and liquid cargo. Large commercial fishing vessels also use the port. More recently new breakwaters have been constructed, with new berthing areas and an additional port area to the East, with the old breakwater being demolished.

Hanstholm is situated on the NW corner of the W coast of Jylland.

Approx 224,000t of cargo and 200 vessels handled annually.

A new navigation system of lights and buoys is being installed, following substantial development of the port to the North, with additional new breakwaters and reclamation of land to the East. A red, yellow and green sectored light is displayed from the inner end of the new Outer Breakwater leading vessels in on a course of approx 225°(045°). Buoy No 4 as been removed. The project depth at the port entrance, by the new West Breakwater, is 11m. This leads into Forhavn with a depth of 9m before entering the other port Basins. Construction work continues. A berth plan exists for vessels in the harbour. It is prohibited to place a vessel anywhere except at the quays allocated for the particular size and type of vessel. Vessels not registered locally are obliged to contact the Port Guard for a berth to be assigned to them.

Not compulsory but available. Pilotage can be arranged via the harbour master within 24 hours of arrival or departure.

The harbour area consists of the harbour, the Roshagemolen E of the harbour and the adjoining land W, S and E of the harbour. The following areas also belong to the harbour area: ..... 1. The expanse of water inside the outer jetties of the harbour 2. An expanse of water, width 200m outside the outer jetties of the harbour 3. A 200m expanse of water around the Roshagemolen 4. A 200m expanse of water off the harbour's land area.

A substantial newharbour area is being constructed (the outer port)with demolition of the old outer East Breakwater, which now leads to a new outer basin. Navigation markers will be changed, according to progress of work. The latest information on these can be found on the port's website (www.hantsholmhaven.dk. The work area for new outer berths (East and West Jetties) is marked with new buoys. Buoy No 4 has been removed. Hanstholm Leading Lights (57°07.1'N 008°36.2'E) are exhibited from masts with red triangular topmarks, standing 0.15nm SE of Basin 4, when in line bearing 142.5° they lead through the harbour entrance. Hanstholm Lightbuoy is moored 0.6nm NW of the harbour entrance, close SW of the leading line. Lights are exhibited from floodlit piles, 4.0m in height on the outer mole heads and 3.0m in height on the inner mole heads. Those on the starboard side, on entering, are green and those on the port side are red. There is a fog signal positioned on the W end of the Vestre Tvaermole Jetty, (1 blast every 15s).

The Order on Rules for Navigation in Certain Danish Waters is in force. The following is an extract: Inbound vessels have precedence over outbound vessels, the latter being required to wait until incoming vessels are clear. Maximum speed within the moles is 3kts.

Range 0.3m. The water level is raised, in W'ly winds, by up to 1.3m and lowered, in E'ly winds, by up to 1.5m. Winds between the W and S result in an E going current and winds between the E and N result in a W going current.

There are 3 tugs available.

Prevailing winds: W'ly. Weather conditions may bring about changes in depths causing unexpected wave and current conditions.

Customs allowances: One bottle of spirits and 200 cigarettes per person are allowed. If quantities in excess of the allowance are found the penalty is a fine. The size of the fine depends on the amounts in excess of allowances. Clearance is handled by the agent but Customs Officers may board at any time to check the validity of the documents handed to the agent. Immigration: There are no restrictions for crew. Passengers of nationalities which require a visa are only allowed transit in Denmark for 36 hours.

There is no demand for an ETA by Port Authorities. ETA messages should be passed to the ship's agent who will relay it to relevant parties (port, stevedores, work gangs, etc). Pilot requires ETA at boarding point 24, 12 and 4 hours prior to arrival.

The following regulations apply: Delivery of fuel from a road tanker to a vessel in the harbour may only take place along certain quays as instructed by the harbour officials. A vessel which is moored on the outer side of another vessel, must use fenders between both vessels. The max speed in the harbour is 3kts.

Pratique is not required for Danish ports. Agent may request a Maritime Declaration of Health from the Master. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be renewed in large ports.

NOR should be tendered in accordance with Charter Party terms.
