Chongming (CNCGM)

The port has 5 harbour areas, Baozhen, Xinhe, Nanmen, Xinjian and Niupeng and is managed by Chongming Shipping Administration Department. It has an overall water area of approx 800,000mІ and land area of 270,000mІ. The main import cargoes handled in the port are ores, coal and general cargo, non-metallic ore, timber, iron and steel. The main export cargoes are ores, iron and steel, general cargo and timber.

The port of Chongming is located on Chongming Island, N of Shanghai, in the mouth of the Changjiang (Yangtze) River.

The annual average water level is 2.6-2.8m.

Prevailing wind: SE'ly, not usually more than 33kts. Typhoons occur in this area on average once or twice a year. Rainfall: Average annual rainfall is 1,003mm. Mist: Fog occurs on average annually for 25.5 days. Temperature: Average annual temperature is 15.3°C. Ice: The port is ice free.
