📋 Port Overview
✗ ISPS✗ ECA
Water depth at the entrance to Sept-Iles Bay is more than 80m, open for navigation all year round with direct access to the Atlantic Ocean through the Gulf of St Lawrence. This enables the port to handle large ocean going bulk carriers. The port installations are situated at Sept-Iles, on the NE side of the bay and at Pointe Noire and Anse a Brochu on the SW side. The port of Sept-Iles is one of the most important ore handling ports in Canada. Due to its deep waters and 10km wide semi-circular bay, the port has become one of the preferred sites for coal STS transhipment. The Port has a Dedicated Transhipment Area (DTA) within Baie des Sept-Isles. The principal cargoes handled at the port are iron ore, alumina, aluminium, petroleum coke, limestone and petroleum products. Iron ore is the primary cargo, mining companies such as Iron Ore Company of Canada, (IOC) operate major berths at the port.

General notices & regulations
For full details of Practices and Procedures at the port can be found on www.portsi.com. In addition, the Iron ore Company of Canada issue Notice to Ships' Bulletins giving current information about berthing at their Sept-Iles facilities. (see www.ironore.ca). Only one vessel may be secured to a berth at any one time. Rafting up is not permitted, nor the securing of one part of a vessel at a berth to another part of a vessel. No vessel may use its propeller to clear ice along a dock while moored at PSI facilities. Ballast Water: All vessels arriving at PSI in ballast condition should comply with the "Ballast Water Control Management Regulations (http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/). Equipment Extending Out from Vessel: Prior authorisation must be obtained from the Harbour Master for this. Such equipment is to lit in hours of darkness. No rigging, cargo gear or other equipment may protrude or overhang beyond the outboard side of the vessel in a manner which may endanger life. This Regulation does not apply to vessels' cranes and gantry cranes or McGregor hatch covers or booms of self unloaders, although care should be taken not to impede other vessels, when such equipment is in use. For IOC Docks: ..... 1. Ships will be loaded in regular turn of arrival, subject to cargo availability and providing they present with starting hatches open and do not have ballast pumping which will exceed expected loading time. The loading time should be calculated at the rate of 10,000tph with 2 shiploaders at Dock No 2. 2. For establishing turn, a ship will be considered "arrived" at the time of crossing the line between Pointe au Corbeau and Pointe-aux-Basques. 3. Loading plans should be presented to the loading foreman on arrival. 4. Ore/oil and OBO carriers having discharged petroleum products at the last port must advise this in first ETA. If a gas-free certificate has not been already granted by an independent chemist, arrangements will be made to have the chemist attend. The arrangement for such a service implies no liability whatsoever on the part of IOC Marine Services and all expenses are to be made to the ship's account. 5. Ships will leave the loading dock immediately upon completion of cargo and secure for sea in the bay. If any delays occur regarding documentation, missing crew members, etc the ship will leave the dock and all matters will be handled from the anchorage. 6. Any ship which fails or refuses to vacate the berth when required by the Port Authority shall be assessed, in addition to any other charges due hereunder, an automatic charge of $1,000/hr or any part thereof after vacating notice has been given in writing to the owner, manager, agent, Master, mate, operator or charterer of the ship. The charge shall be paid promptly and it is accepted that it accurately represents the min estimate of damages to the IOC because of refusal or failure of the ship to vacate. 7. Ships must have engines ready when alongside loading docks. Permission to perform work that would affect the readiness of the ship to leave the berth in cases of emergency must be obtained from IOC Marine Services before proceeding with such work.
Health regulations
Pratique should only be applied for when a vessel is arriving from a country which has a plague outbreak, has had a death onboard and/or serious illness among the crew, or has an infestation of rats. Pratique can be applied for by radio, via the Canadian Coastguard. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate and Exemption Certificates can be renewed.
Notices of readiness
As per Charter Party or upon docking with first line ashore.
