✓ ISPS✗ ECA
A natural harbour, with a substantial amount of ferry traffic, the port of Sydney includes the Sub Port areas of Ball's Head, Ballast Point, Balmain, Berry's Bay, Blackwattle Bay, Darling Harbour, Glebe Island, Gore Bay, Port Jackson, Pyrmont, Snail's Bay, Sydney Cove and White Bay. With the expansion of nearby Botany Bay Harbour commercial terminals, cruise liners and tourism have become the major economic activity for Sydney Harbour. Cargo still includes petroleum products, dry bulk, vehicles, general cargo and some containerised goods. Botany Bay is expected to handle most of Sydney's cargo activity within the next few years.

General notices & regulations
The Port Procedure Guide for Sydney Harbour and Botany Bay is produced by Sydney Ports Corp; and includes information on arrival and departure procedures; navigation within the port; berths, safety and pollution. Pilot ladder requirements: ..... 1. Pilot ladders are to be rigged in strict accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and International Maritime Pilots Association recommendations. 2. The pilot ladder should be set with the bottom rung about 3.0m above the water and 2 proper manropes must be provided. 3. Where the freeboard of the vessel exceeds 9.0m and the use of a combined accommodation ladder and pilot ladder is necessary, the lower platform of the accommodation ladder should be above 7.0m above the waterline and, together with the pilot ladder and manropes, be secured to the ship's side. 4. Pilot hoists are not acceptable as an alternative to a combination ladder and may only be used on agreement of the pilot service provider. 5. When the ladder is rigged over a bulwark, stanchions should be fitted to the top of the bulwark and steps provided to the deck. 6. A heaving line should be available and, by night the ladder should be suitably illuminated. Embarkation of pilot: 1. A vessel manoeuvring to pick up a pilot for Sydney Harbour should maintain a speed of about 7-8kts and steer a course which puts the prevailing swell on the opposite quarter to the side on which the pilot ladder is rigged. 2. The Master of an arriving vessel should ensure sufficient sea-room is maintained to allow manoeuvres to provide a lee for the pilot cutter. 3. Because of the frequent pressure of swell, and its changing pattern close to the harbour entrance, no arriving vessel should enter boarding ground without the approval of the pilot. 4. If the pilot cannot board at the pilot boarding point the pilot cutter will lead a vessel into smoother water between Sydney Heads. Traffic regulations: 1. Vessels waiting to enter the port are not permitted to anchor inside port limits. 2. Vessels entering the port should not proceed W of the pilot boarding ground without permission of the Duty Communications Superintendent (Harbour Control) or the attendant pilot vessel. 3. Inbound vessels must not enter Area B; Outbound vessels must not enter Area A. Speed regulations: Vessels exceeding 30m in length other than ferries, tugs and self-propelled dredgers, must: 1. Between a line joining South Head and North Head, 1.3nm ENE, and a line joining Bradleys Head and Shark Point, 0.9nm E, including Middle Harbour and North Harbour, not exceed a speed of 12kts. 2. Between a line joining Bradleys Head and Shark Point, and Sydney Harbour Bridge, not exceed a speed of 10kts, and; 3. Being in that area bound by Sydney Harbour Bridge and a line drawn between Balls Head and Ballast Point, 0.3nm SSW, not exceed a speed of 8kts, and; 4. In all waters, including rivers and creeks, W of a line joining Balls Head and Ballast Point, not exceed a speed of 6kts. The speed of any power vessel must be reduced to dead slow when within a radius of 90m from the wharves at Miller's Point or any works of the Port Authority in progress, or any dredger or other vessel in execution of such works, and, if necessary to prevent damage or interruption of such wharves, or prior to passing over or along mooring chains of any such dredger or other plant, the engines of such vessel must be stopped until the vessel has passed beyond such wharves or mooring chains.
Health regulations
A quarantine officer will board the vessel as soon as possible and carry out an inspection. The granting of pratique does not release a vessel's cargo from quarantine, all international goods including ballast water, cargo and crew/passenger effects must be cleared through quarantine before being imported into Australia. Ship Sanitation Control Certificate and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate issued.
