Kingscote (AUKGC)

The town is the capital of the island. The principal use of the port is for the passenger ferry service.

Summer.

Kingscote is situated on the NE corner of Kangaroo Island to the SW of the St Vincent Gulf. The island is in the state of South Australia.

Draught 4.3m. Largest vessel handled: "Island Seaway", 3,536GT.

The best anchorage may be found in depths of approx 6.0m, approx 0.75nm E of the jetty.

Depth in the approach channel is 4.57m below CD, limestone and shell. The directions are as follows: Kingscote Harbour is approached from the E on the line of bearing 285° on Table-topped Hill, (35°38'S 137°32'E), passing S of a light (pile beacon), (35°40'S 137°41'E), situated at the S end of the sand spit extending SE from Cape Rouge. The spit is covered by the red sector (110°-210°) of the light. The line bearing 314° on Beatrice Point, (35°38'S 137°38'E), leads W of the sand spit to the anchorage.

American River Volunteer Coastguard, monitors VHF Ch 16, 80 and 72, open daylight or by arrangement.

Pilotage is not compulsory but can be arranged through the Harbour Master at Adelaide, if required.

Light Beacon, (35°38.6'S 137°41.5'E). Rolls Point Light, (35°39.7'S 137°37.9'E). Kingscote Harbour Jetty Head Light, (35°39.4'S 137°38.6'E).

Range MHWS, 1.40m; MHWN, 0.91m.

There are no tugs available. A launch is available to run lines.
