Moss Landing (USMLG)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is used by pleasure craft and fishing vessels.

Located on the E side of Monterey Bay, California, 68nm S of San Francisco.

Anchorage off Moss Landing Harbor is unprotected but the holding ground is good.

Approach: From a position WNW of No 2 Lightbuoy (starboard hand), moored 1nm NNW of Point Pinos (36°38'N 121°56'W) the track leads approx 11nm NE to the vicinity of MLA Lightbuoy (safe water) moored 0.9nm SW of the harbour entrance, passing: SE of a Lightbuoy (special) (8nm NNW of Point Pinos), moored 2.5nm W of Salinas River, a dangerous wreck lies approx 1nm W of the river mouth. Then: NW of a dangerous wreck which lies approx 1.75nm SSW of the harbour entrance. Entry leading lights: Front light (red rectangular daymark, white stripe, on red column), at the head of the entrance channel. Rear light (similar structure) (58m NE of the front light). From the vicinity of MLA Lightbuoy the alignment (052°) of these lights leads approx 1nm NE to the outer turning basin, passing: NW of No 2 Buoy (starboard hand) moored 200m SW of the head of the S jetty to mark turbulent water from a power station discharge which might be dangerous to small craft, and: SE of No 2 Buoy (port hand) moored 150m SW of the head of the N jetty, then: Between the jetties, from the heads of which lights (lateral) are exhibited. From the outer turning basin the main channel marked by lights, buoys and a beacon, leads 0.5nm S to the inner basin.
