Gustavus (USGST)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port handles containers, general cargo and petroleum products. It is also used by passenger and vehicle ferries.

Gustavus is located on the northern shore of Icy Passage at the mouth of Salmon River in Alaska.

Approx 100TEU handled annually.

Bartlett Cove, 4nm N of Point Gustavus, formed by the mainland on the SE and Lester Island on the NW, is large and affords good anchorage. It is open to the SW, but the holding ground is good. The best anchorage in the cove is 0.2nm off the SE side in 12-18m, mud bottom. Care must be taken not to approach too close to the head of the cove. In S weather, small boats can anchor close inshore on the SE side of the cove. The water on the NW side of the cove is deeper, anchorage for large vessels is recommended in the centre of the cove in 14.6-29.0m.
