Crescent City (USCEC)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Commercial and sport fishing boats operate out of the harbour. Waterborne traffic in the harbour is in receipt of gasoline and fuel oils.

Crescent City Harbor is midway between San Francisco Bay and the entrance to Columbia River.

Caution: Care must be exercised when approaching Crescent City Harbor because of the numerous rocks and shoals in its vicinity. Dangers in the N approach: Foul ground with many offlying rocks extends nearly 1nm offshore in the N approach to the harbour between Battery Point (41°45'N 124°12'W) and Point St George, approx 3nm NW, this area should be avoided. A light (white two storey structure) is exhibited from the islet 0.1nm S of Battery Point. No 1 Buoy (port hand) moored 0.5nm SW of Battery Point Light marks a rock, which dries approx 1.5m. The principal above water rocks are (positioned from Battery Point Light): Castle Rock (2.25nm NW). White Rock (1.25nm WNW). Preston Island (0.7nm WNW), a peninsula 36m in height. Steamboat Rock (0.35nm SSE), 12.8m in height. Dangers in the S approach: Chase Ledge, marked 0.3nm WSW by No 2 Lightbuoy (starboard hand) is a shoal with a depth over it of 6.4m lying 1nm S of Outer Breakwater Light (41°44'N 124°11'W); a shoal depth of 2.0m on which the sea breaks only in a heavy swell, lies 0.5nm ENE off Chase Ledge.

A Coast Guard vessel is stationed in the basin N of Whaler Island.

Crescent City entrance light (41°44'N 124°11'W), 16.7m above the water, is shown from a white cylindrical structure at the seaward end of the W breakwater. A fog signal is at the light.
