Tembladora (TTTEM)

Tembladora is a bauxite terminal operated by Alcoa. It is a port of entry and a transhipment centre for alumina from Guyana and Suriname. Loading and discharging will not be performed during rainy weather. The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information is retained should the port reopen.

Tembladora is located W of Port of Spain on the W coast of Trinidad.

LOA 209m, beam 32m, draught 11.0m.

Secure anchorage can be obtained 0.5nm to 0.75nm off the pierhead, which is just off the entrance to the dredged channel to the dock in depths of 11.0m-14.0m.

Directions: From a position approx 1nm S of Cronstadt Islet (10°39.4'N 061° 37.9'W), the track leads NE passing, relative to Cronstadt Islet; SE of Diego Island (tide rips occurs approx 0.2nm NE of Carrera Islet, the NE isle of Diego Island), then, NW of Five Island (1.75nm E). The track then leads to a position 0.4nm SE of Alice Point (1.5nm NE), the SW entrance to Cartenage Bay and on the following leading line; Front light (10°40.9'N 061°36.0'W) (white square daymark with black stripe) exhibited for the N end of the berth. Rear light, (similar structure) 180m from front light. The alignment of (042.2°) these marks lead NE through a channel marked by a pair of lightbuoys (lateral) to the pier. The turning basin off the pier is marked on its E side by a lightbuoy (starboard hand). The draught in the approach channel is 11.0m. There are two approach channel marker buoys (green and red) and one turning point marker (red).

Coastguard facility is located approx 4km by road and 3.1nm by sea from Transfer Station.

The port is said to have approach channel line up navigational lights. Aircraft warning beacon lights.

Range 1.21m.

One tug is available for mandatory berthing and unberthing. Towage is available throughout 24 hours. However, this is subject to vessel movements and schedules at other ports.

Prevailing winds: SE'ly. The rainy season runs from Jun-Dec and the dry season from Jan-May. Loading and discharging will not be performed during rainy weather.

Custom guards available 24/7. Customs and Immigration Officers are scheduled as required by the agent, clearance is usually performed on berthing. Customs allowances for officers and crew are limited to personnel effects and gifts. Penalties for non compliance with regulations are fines and seizure of items. Immigration procedures, include boarding of vessels, granting pratique, crew change, crew passes and vessel clearance. Countries without diplomatic connections will be restricted from entering the port.

Notify ETA 36 and 24 hours prior to arrival. Port/Vessel Communication worksheet sent to agent by vessel's Security Officer (SSO), 72 hours prior to arrival.

The Trinidad and Tobago flag and the vessel port of registry flag must be flown. Fines will be imposed for non compliance with these regulations.

The Port Health Officer will board vessels at the anchorage by day or at night. Ship Sanitation Control and Exemption Certificates can be issued.
