Khanom (THKHA)

The small port has lighter berths for loading barite ore and gypsum into vessels at anchor. The Sumpun Mining has a wharf with two berths for the loading of bulk gypsum. The port is also handles LPG and liquid cargo.

Tropical.

Khanom is located 3km NNW of Cape Natham, on the E shore of the Gulf of Thailand.

LOA 181m, beam 30m, draught 9.5m, 32,741DWT.

Anchorage off the port with a depth of 13.0m is the best holding ground for anchorage to which the loading of barytes is completed.

Draught limitation in the channel is 9.5m.

Vessel is moored to 8 buoys, 4 forward and 4 aft, and is kept 2-3m off the jetty. Vessels are required to be equipped with 8 lines of at least 280m length each.

Pilotage is compulsory. Pilot boards at the anchor position, approx 1.5nm E of New Jetty. Vessels should contact the pilot through the agent.

The chimney of a power station (red and white bands; red obstruction light) stands on the NW bank of the Laem Na Tham River (09°12'N 099°53'E).

A submarine power cable is laid from a position close E of the power station in a NE direction. A wreck lies approx 0.6nm NE of the river mouth. Vessels are not berthed when wind speeds approach 20kts, and may be required to unberth if wind speeds are expected to exceed 20kts.

A tug is available, and small boats assist with running lines.

During the NE monsoon the swell may cause vessels to roll whilst alongside.

Singapore and/or Bangkok Radio can be used for passing messages at long range. Both stations work throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible. After anchoring, vessels should maintain a continuous listening watch on VHF Ch 16.

Customs: Allowance for officers and crew are one carton of cigarettes and one bottle of whisky; each member is also allowed a piece of sound/video equipment. Penalties for non compliance. Immigration: Transit passengers are normally allowed to disembark within 30 minutes after the vessel's arrival and their passports will be stamped in/out during the vessel's stay. Disembarking passengers will have their passport stamped on arrival and embarking passengers will have their passport stamped when boarding. All crew are required to sign in/out on the Immigration Crew List, presentation of Seaman's Book/passport is not required unless signing on/off. Immigration department will stamp passenger passports with arrival/departure card attached and grant a 30 day visa. Pratique should be applied for on arrival. A General Declaration of Health is acceptable except when vessel is arriving from an infected area. Ship Sanitation Control and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates can be renewed.

On arrival in accordance with the terms and conditions of the Charter Party.
