Santo Antonio (STSAA)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. It is the most important bay in the area and is used as a lightering anchorage. However it is exposed to E and SE winds. The inner bay is not easily distinguished from seaward.

Santo Antonio is situated on the NE coast of the island of Principe, 220km off the African coast, and 330km S of the River Niger delta.

Max offshore draught 10.0m.

Three anchorages are indicated. Their positions relative to Ponta da Mina Light (01°39'N 007°26.4'E) are 0.5nm N in a depth of 11.7m, 0.4nm NW in a depth of 5.0m and 0.5nm W in a depth of 3.0m. Outer anchorage: The outer anchorage can accommodate vessels with a draught of 10.0m in good holding, but is exposed to the prevailing SE wind and could be dangerous with the passage of a tornado.

The bay is approached from the E and entered between Ponta Capitao (01°40.3'N 007°27.8'E) and Ponta da Garca, 2.5nm S.
