The port handles general cargo, container, Ro-Ro, passengers, dry bulk and liquid cargo. Remains free of ice through the winter.

Uddevalla is a W coast Swedish port located on the Skagerrak.

Draught 11.5m. Max airdraught 43m in the fairway.

Approx 1,130,000t of cargo and 400 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage may be obtained, a bay which lies in the SE of Byfjorden, in a depth of 40m, within the outside of Gustavsbergsbukten. Prohibited anchorages: There are numerous submarine cables and pipelines in the approaches to Uddevalla. The shore ends of some cables are marked by notice boards, surmounted by white triangles with red borders.

Two channels, for which local knowledge is necessary, lead from seaward to Uddevalla. The N channel between the NW side of Orust and the mainland or from Ellosefjorden and then through Malo Strommar. The S channel entered S of Pater Nosterskaren, separates the E sides of Tjorn and Orust from the mainland.

Pilotage is compulsory for the following: South Channel: Dry Cargo Vessels over LOA 90m or 16m beam and tankers over LOA 80m or 15m beam. North Channel: All vessels over LOA 70m, beam 14, or draught 4.5m. Pilots are stationed at Marstrand for S approach, where a constant watch is kept. They board vessels from a fast, orange coloured launch 1.25nm WSW of Hatteberget Light Tower. Vessels bound for Uddevalla, Stenungsund, or Wallhamn by the N channel can obtain pilots from Lysekil. A vessel leaving Uddevalla can obtain a pilot from the town at any time. Pilot should be ordered 5 hours in advance, if less there will be an extra charge.

Southern entrance: A line from position 57°47.5'N 011°42.3'E bearing 299° to Hatteberget Light (57°51.8'N 011°27.7'E) then bearing 015° to position 57° 58.9'N 011°31.3'E. 2. Northern entrance: A line from the coast in position 58°10.4'N 011°23.1'E through Hatten Light Beacon (58°10.5'N 011°22.5'E), Skramjas Ungar Buoy (58° 11'N 011°19.3'E), Brofjordens Anchoring Lightbuoy (58°15'N 011°13.4'E), Sorgrundsberget Lightbuoy (58°17.0'N 011°10.5'E) and Segebaaden Buoy (58° 21.0'N 011°09.4'E) to the coast near Vajern in position 58°23.0'N 011°15.7'E. Shore stations: Traffic information centres are located as follows: ..... 1. Marstrand pilot station. Area covered is from the outer limits at the southern entrance to Long 011°45'E in Havstensfjord and including Uddevalla. Call "Marstrand Pilot" on VHF Ch 11, 16. 2. Lysekil pilot station. Area covered is from the outer limits at the northern entrance to Long 011°45'E in Havstensfjord and including Brofjorden and Gullmarn. Call "Marstrand Pilot" on VHF Ch 11, 16. Destination In addition, vessels should report these details on arrival at, or departure from a berth, on anchoring and weighing anchor, in the event of a change in route, grounding or collision.
