Kapellskar (SEKPS)

The port of Kapellskar handles large Ro-Ro passenger and freight ferries. There are five main ferry berths available.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Kapellskar is located on the E coast of Sweden, approx 40nm NE of Stockholm.

Max LOA 218.79m, beam 30.5m, 9,653DWT.

Approx 2,650,000t of cargo and 1,000,000 passengers handled annually.

Through Granhamsfjarden follow the N of the 2 tracks shown on the chart with the light on Kapellskar (59°43'N 019°05'E) ahead bearing 257°. Kapellskar Light (white tower, 9.0m in height) is exhibited on the NW side of the fairway from a rock situated close off the SE side of the islet. Kapellskar Beacon (red cairn, white band, straddled by framework pyramid, topmark triangle point down) stands close NW of the light. The route leads 0.2nm S of Farholmsrev, a 2.7m patch marked by a buoy (spar topmark 2 cones points up, radar reflector) which lies 0.2nm S of Farholmsrevet Light (59°43.8'N 019°06.9'E) (white hut) exhibited at an elevation of 3.0m. When S of this light alter course SE towards the Island of Maro (59°42'N 019° 04'E) on which is a tower. Maro Udde Light (white lantern) is exhibited at an elevation of 5.0m, from the N end of the island. There is a beacon on Stora Fallen 0.3nm ESE of Maro Udde Light. A beacon stands on an islet 1.1nm ENE of Farholmsrevet Light, and another beacon stands on an islet 0.5nm E of the same light. In line bearing 054° these beacons, if they can be identified, lead SE of Kapellskar Light and also of a 6.0m shoal, lying 0.35nm SSW of the light, which is marked by a buoy. Berths 4 and 5 are either side of the pier in the North of the harbour. Berth No 3 is the starboard side of the pier to the South of the harbour. Vehicles access via the road and a serious of ramps. New berths 1 and 2 are under construction to the S of the commercial harbour area. During building time, some disruption may occur to normal ferry services.

Pilotage is compulsory and is available 24 hours for the following: (a) All category 1 vessels. (b) Category 2 vessels of LOA70m, 14.0m beam and 4.5m. draught and over. (c) Category 3 vessels of LOA70m, 14.0m beam and 4.5m. draught and over. Pilots can be ordered via the e-services section on the Swedish Maritime Administration website (www.sjofartsverket.se) Along with the reporting on the Vessel Reporting System (FRS): (1) A preliminary Pilot request must be made via the FRS at least 24hrs in advance. (2) The definitive Pilot request must be made via the FRS at least 5 hours in advance. In exceptional cases, the Pilot may be ordered via email, telephone, or VHF: ..... Position NW of Simpnasklubb 59°54.00'N 19°05.00'E NW or SE of Tjarven 59°47.00'N 19°22.00'E 2nm SE of Revengegrundet 59°15.00'N 19°01.00E Pilot boat for ice and rough sea conditions, speed 9kts, boarding 6kts, fast cutter speed 24kts, boarding speed 8kts. When there is risk of icing vessels are requested not to hang the pilot ladder out too early.

Svedjelandet Leading Lights: Front light (green triangle point up, white stripe, on mast) (59°43 42''N 019° 03.99'E) exhibited on request, from the W side of the harbour. Rear light: (similar structure, triangle point down) (240m w of front light).
