Kalix (SEKAX)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Kalix is a small river harbour and therefore only suitable for small vessels and timber barges. There are however berthing facilities at Karlsborg for larger vessels handling Kalix cargoes. There is a small oil terminal at Axelsvik, approx 15km SE of Kalix.

Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length and Winter Zone for ships of 100m or less in length. Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Kalix is situated on the E side of Kalixalven, 5nm NW of Karlsborg, on the Baltic Sea.

There are anchorages off the quays, depth 5.0m, mud.

A channel marked by buoys and only suitable for daylight navigation leads from Karlsborg to Kalix. Depths in the boat haven and in the approach are approx 2.0m.

A fixed bridge spans the river abreast the town, it has a vertical clearance of 7.0m under the navigable centre span which has a width of 80m. Depths in the river are subject to continual variation due to mud movements.
