Vila do Porto (PTVDP)

The port of Vila do Porto is protected by two overlapping breakwater built to eliminate the surge inside the harbour. Ferry Quay located at the North of Commercial Quay was reclassified to serve the passenger vessels.

The port of Vila do Porto is located at the head of the bay on the SW coast of Santa Maria Island.

Draught 6.0m, LOA 120m.

Approx 43,000t of cargo, 1,700TEU, 200 vessels and 21,000 passenger handled annually.

Anchorage area with depth of 30m lies about 0.3mile SSW of the breakwater head.

Compulsory pilotage is exempt for the following: ..... 1. National navy and auxiliary vessels. 2. Vessels used for coastal navigation which authorized to operate the traffic belonging to the port authority or its service. 3. Local traffic vessels, tugboats and auxiliary or other vessels which authorized to perform their operation in the local area, with GT of less than the limit set by the PA Board of Directors. 4. Vessels engaged in port work. 5. Local and coastal fishing vessels. 6. Recreational craft.
