Tanauan is situated in San Pedro Bay on the E coast of Leyte, 16km S of Tacloban.

Max LOA 305m, beam 27m.

The port is approached along the recommended track from Capines Point (11°05'N 125°14'E), to a position E of Camiris Point (11°08'N 125°02'E). From this position the track leads WSW passing NNW of a group of shoals with depths of 8.2, 5.5 and 7.6m over them, lying between 2.25nm N and 3.75nm NE of Vigia Point. The track continues WNW with a conspicuous water tower ahead and in line with the wooden pier.

It is recommended to use an anchor alongside as strong surges are reported.

Pilotage is compulsory for all vessels of more than 100GT. Pilots board 1.5nm N of Mariquidaquit Island (11°04'N 125°09'E). The pilot boat is a motor launch with PILOT painted on the side. It will display flag H. Vessels awaiting a pilot may anchor 1nm NNE of the islands. Requests for pilots should be communicated to Tacloban Harbour Pilot Association at Tacloban City, at least 24 hours prior to arrival.
