Ozamiz (PHOZC)

The port handles container, Ro-Ro and conventional cargoes. The main cargoes handled are live animals, agricultural products, animal feeds, lumbers, marine products, machinery and electrical supplies and equipment, and transport equipment.

Ozamiz is located in the NW of Mindanao Island on the northern shore of Paquil Bay, approx 25nm SW of Iligan.

Draught 6.7m, Max LOA 145m.

Approx 900,000t of cargo, 30,500TEU, 15,000 vessels and 3,700,000 passengers handled annually.

Vessels may anchor in a depth of 18.0m with Misamis Port Light bearing 100° x 0.75nm. Smaller vessels may anchor in a depth of 8.4m, 0.25nm SW of the port light. Holding ground is fair. Outer anchorage, position 08°8.5'N 123°52.5'E, depth 15.0m, holding ground, muddy.

Ozamiz port should be approached with caution. From a position 6nm NE of Misamis Point, Micaniguing Leading Light beacons should be brought in line, bearing 192.5° and steered for on that bearing, passing close E of No 2 Lightbuoy. If bound for Ozamiz City, alter course to 226° when Ozamiz Light tower bears 235°, passing close N of No 1 Buoy. When Ozamiz Light tower is abeam, proceed as requisite to anchor or berth alongside. Ozamiz Light tower is occasionally difficult to distinguish, in which case Bucagan Hill is an alternative landmark. The channel W of Loculan Shoals is extremely narrow and should not be used without local knowledge. If bound for the pier or anchorage near Micaniguing continue with the leading light beacons, in line, bearing 192.5°, and pass 0.5nm W of Panguilinan Shoals.

Contact Philippine Coast Guard Station, Port Area, Ozamiz City 7200.

Contact Iligan Harbour Pilot Association through VHF. ETA to be sent at least 1 hour prior to arrival advising draught, GT, LOA and tonnage. Pilots speak English. Pilot boarding station is 5nm from the nearest berth.

The port limits are bounded by the pilot boarding station, position 08°11.0'N 123°54.0'E.

Ozamiz Light is exhibited from a concrete tower, 9m in height, standing on the SW corner of an old Spanish fort on Misamis Point. There are radio beacons at Bucagan Hill.

Navigation of the channel is discouraged during night-time except in extreme cases at the discretion of the harbour pilot.

Tidal range 0.9m, mean spring range 1.5m, mean neap range 0.2m.

One x 1,000hp tug available from Iligan Harbour Pilot Association (IHPA). One twin screw 1,000hp tug available from Marcoso Tug Services. Notice of 24 hours is required. Communicate through VHF when manoeuvring using tug line or ship's line.

ETA's: ETA should be advised 24 hours prior to vessel's arrival to Harbour Pilot Association, Iligan Sub-office of Ozamiz City. For purposes of berthing allocation, foreign vessel's ETA should be received by Philippines Port Association (PPA) 72 hours prior to arrival. ETA is best transmitted through the various telegram offices in the city such as RCPI and PT & T.

Red flag and red light must be continuously exhibited as warning signals for dangerous goods onboard.

Foreign vessels will clear quarantine on arrival at Ozamiz. Quarantine Officers will board the vessel before the pilot's boat meets the vessel.

For loading and unloading operation purposes, the agent must tender the cargo handling operator (CHO) NOR at least 10 hours prior to arrival.
