Atimonan (PHATI)

Atimonan is the principal town in the area and is prominent from seaward. The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

Atimonan is approx 90nm ESE of Manila.

Max LOA 198m, draught 13.4m at the chemical factory.

There is an anchorage off the mouth of Atimonan River in a depth of 18.0m, mud, with Atimonan church bearing 180°. Small vessels may anchor closer in, but they should not proceed within depths of 11.0m, as depths decrease rapidly and the holding ground of the sand is poor. During the NE monsoon (Oct - Mar) the anchorage is sometimes untenable. Anchorage should then be sought in Port Alabat or Sangirin Bay on the SW side of Alabat Island.

The nearest coastguard station is located at Siain, Quezon, approximately 30 minutes drive from Atimonan.

Vessels moor pierside by spring lines (always starboard side docking) and secured by mooring lines, mooring post and one buoy. As there are no tugboats available at the port, mooring and unmooring is usually carried out during daylight hours.

Compulsory, the pilot boards approx 2nm SW of the pier. Pilots for Siain board off the port from a canoe fitted with an outrigger.

Atimonan Light is exhibited from a concrete mast, 8m in height, standing on the S side of the Atimonan River.

The preferred hours for docking/undocking are from 0500-1700hrs.

The average tidal range is 1.5m

There are no tugs available from Atimonan, but they can be obtained from Batangas.

The weather can be divided into two seasons: Mar-May is regarded as the summer season and Jun-Feb is regarded as the rainy season. During bad weather in the area vessels are guided to safety by Pilots to Siain anchorage.
