Vanimo is located on the NE coast of Papua New Guinea.

Max LOA 80m, draught 6.0-8.0m.

Approx 33,000t of cargo, 1,200TEU and 10 vessels handled annually.

Anchorage is afforded in any part of the harbour, as convenient, with good holding ground. A quarantine anchorage lies in the middle of the harbour.

Approaching from the E, along the coast, the islands of Narimaru and Buro form the best guide to the vicinity of the entrance to Vanimo Harbour. The harbour is entered between Cape Concordia and Vanimo Point, 1.25nm NW. Entry should be made midway between the entrance points keeping at least 0.2nm from the reefs fringing each point. Caution: Navigation aids can be unreliable.

Mooring gangs to be arranged by agent, no service boats.

Pilotage is not compulsory but available from Madang with 48 hours notice. Pilot boarding area is approx bearing 240° by 1.6nm from Vanimo Point.

All foreign vessels are subject to Customs/Immigration checks before clearance is given. No ship's crew is allowed to leave the ship without proper documents.

Vessels must have necessary documents required onboard such as, passports, Seamen's Book, Last Port Clearance and other general ship's general information.

Vessel's ETA should be sent 24 hours prior to arrival.

Upon arrival vessels should display all necessary flags, together with quarantine yellow flag and the company in which the ship is owned and operated by.

Under ISPS Code all vessels must comply with International Maritime Security Regulations and must have vessels security declaration onboard.
