Lorengau (PGLOR)

The port is currently closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port consists of a wharf with a "T" platform on the seaward end of a jetty with a mooring dolphin close NW. Some fresh water is available and bunkers can be taken. The wharf is not suitable for ocean going vessels. Copra and cocoa are exported.

Lorengau is situated at the eastern end of Manus Island.

Approx 34,300t of cargo and 110 passengers handled annually.

Quarantine anchorage lies 1.25nm S of Hawei Island (01°57'S 147°17'E). Anchorage may be obtained in depths of approx 30m anywhere in Seeadler Harbour clear of the scattered shoal patches. Recommended anchorages are: In a depth of 16.5m approx 0.5nm SW of Rara Island (02°01'S 147°18'E). In a depth of approx 30m, 320°, 2.5nm from Lombrum Point (02°02'S 147°23'E). Anchorage may be obtained by small vessels in Lombrum Bay and Papitalai Harbour but local knowledge is required.

Directions: The track through the main entrance into Seeadler Harbour leads in mid-channel on the line of bearing 200° of the E extremity of Rara Island (3nm S of Hawei Island), densely wooded and approx 36m high to the tops of the trees, passing WNW of the NW extremity of the wooded Ndrilo Island on which stands a disused lighthouse with a light (metal framework tower; 25m in height) alongside it. Then the track leads either to the anchorages or to the wharves on the S shore of the harbour. From inside the entrance, the track continues on the line of bearing 200° on the W extremity of Rara Island (3nm S of Hawei Island, 0.8nm N of Lorengau), passing (positions relative to Rara Island): E of a 4.3m patch (1nm N) marked by a white and black piling on its WNW extremity, and W of a shoal extending WSW from Rara Island, marked by a beacon (red triangle topmark). Then the track leads S to Nabu Wharf (0.8nm distance), passing either W or E of a shoal (0.5nm S) marked by a beacon on its E extremity (green triangle topmark) and a beacon on its W extremity (white triangle topmark). Anchorage off Lorengau may be obtained in depths of approx 3.5m to 9.0m anywhere along the shore W or E of this shoal.

Not compulsory. Available from Madang with 48 hours notice. Advice is available from PNG Defence Force for vessels proceeding to Manus Naval Base. Pilot boards in position 01°56.6'S 147°18.3'E, bearing 126° x 2.9nm from Ndrilo Island Old Lighthouse.

The port lies within Seeadler Harbour E of a line joining Hawei (Hauwei) Island (01°57'S 147°17'E) and Parendo Point (3.5nm S). Its seaward limit is formed by a line extending N for 2,050m from the E extremity of Hawei Island, then E for 2,950m, then S to the W extremity of Ndrilo Island.
