Leirvik (NOLRI)

Leirvik is a well sheltered port located at the SE end of Stord and entered between Sponavikneset and Valoyodden. Shelter is provided from the E by Ytstoy, Midtoy and Valoy, though is exposed to the SE.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Leirvik is located on the SE coast of Stord Island, approx 18.5km SW of Husnes.

LOA 120m and draught 5m from the latest audit.

Anchorage can be obtained by large vessels in the W part of Leirvik. The best berth is 0.2nm NNE of Skottaflu Light structure in a depth of approx 40m, sand and clay. Care is necessary to avoid a submarine cable which exists off the N shore.

Leirvik is entered between Sponavikneset and Valoyodden, 1nm NE. At night, the white sector of Husoysnaget Light, bearing between 322.5°-010°, leads between Sponavikflu and Ytstoy to within 0.2nm of the light. The white sector of the light, bearing between 084.5°-128°, covers the anchorage.

Leirvik Light is exhibited from a white lantern on the E point of Midtoy (59° 47'N 005°33'E). Husoysnaget Light is exhibited from a white lantern on piles, situated on a rock close SW of Husoy, 0.3nm WNW of Midtoy. Shottaflu Light is exhibited from a pedestal on the head of a mole extending from the S shore of the harbour 0.4nm NW of Sonavikneset.

An overhead cable with a vertical clearance of 20m crosses the passage N of Valoy.

Radio: Any Norwegian Coastal Radio station can be used for passing messages at long range. All coastal radio stations are operated 24 hours a day throughout the year. Inmarsat communication available up to Lat 75°N. VHF: Call "Leirvik Port" on Ch 16.

Customs: Allowance for crew and officers is that stated on the Personal Effects Declaration. Goods on the declaration are not to be taken ashore. Penalties for non compliance are severe fines. Immigration: Board at first port of call (cruise ships only). They require a Crew List and a Passenger List and will make random passport inspections. All passports should be available for a quick clearance which normally takes 15-20 minutes.

Arrival Notification, in the prescribed format, to the Navy should be made 24 hours before entering Norwegian territorial waters (baseline). See country information. Additional ETAs should be sent 12 and 6 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent.

There is no need to apply for pratique. Ship Sanitation Control Certificates (SSCC) can be renewed.

NOR to be tendered in accordance with Charter Party when vessel is ready to start loading/discharging. When berth is not available for loading/discharging NOR to be tendered when anchoring or according to Charter Party.
