Floro (NOFRO)

Floro consists of five operating areas - Gundhilvagen, Floro Hamn, Westcon Yard - Floro, Norwegian Sandstone Export SA (NSE) and the Fjord Base.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Floro is situated between Bergen and Aalesund and is the westernmost port in Norway.

Max LOA 250m, beam 32m, 50,000DWT.

Approx 2,500,000t of cargo, 7,500 vessels and 183,000 passengers are handled annually.

It is not usual to anchor in these waters. The fjords are deep, with poor holding ground. Quay rental is relatively modest.

Only small coastal and pleasure craft pass through Furesund or Ausesund. Vessels pass into the inner waters by way of Kvanhovden and the Hellefjord, the Rekstafjord can also be used in fair weather.

Pilotage is compulsory. Vessels should contact Floro pilot station on VHF Ch 16 about 2hrs prior to arrival at the pilot boarding position. Vessels that call on VHF Ch 16 will be connected to the Kvitsoy Pilot Booking Center via Floro or Rogaland Coast Radio Station if the station does not respond. All direct communications with the pilots and the pilot vessels will take place on VHF Ch 13. Pilot boards in the following positions: 1) Vessels over 30,000GT - 61° 43.000'N 4° 23.500'E. 2) W of Kvannhovden Lt - 61° 42.200'N 4° 45.500'E. In bad weather pilots board in the following positions: a) Hellefjorden - 61° 39.100'N 4° 51.200'E. b) Froysjoen - 61° 45.000'N 4° 56.600'E.

VHF: Port: Ch 12, 16. Pilots should be contacted through Kvitsoy Pilot Booking Centre. Radio: Any Norwegian Coastal Radio station may be used for passing messages at long range. All coastal radio stations are operated 24 hours a day throughout the year. Inmarsat communication available up to Lat 75°N.

Customs: Allowance for crew and officers is that stated on the Personal Effects Declaration. Goods on the declaration are not to be taken ashore. Penalties for non compliance are severe fines. Immigration: Board at first port of call (cruise ships only). They require a Crew List and a Passenger List and will make random passport inspections. All passports should be available for a quick clearance which normally takes 15-20 minutes.

Arrival Notification, in the prescribed format, to the Navy should be made 24 hours before entering Norwegian territorial waters (baseline). See country information. Additional ETA's should be sent 12 and 6 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent.

There is no need to apply for pratique. Ship Sanitation Control Certificates (SSCC) can be renewed.

NOR to be tendered in accordance with Charter Party when vessel is ready to start loading/discharging. When berth is not available for loading/discharging NOR to be tendered when anchoring or according to Charter Party.
