Middelburg (NLMID)

Middelburg is a small multi-functional port consisting of an inlet basin possessing numerous berths to handle passengers and a range of cargoes including: scrap metal, animal feeds, diesel oil, sand and gravel.

Middelburg is located on the SW coast of The Netherlands, approx 6km inland from Vlissingen Flushing.

Max LOA 135.00m, beam 16.50m, draught 6.0m and 6,252DWT.

Middelburg is approached through the Kanaal door Walcheren. The canal is approx 6nm long and entered through the lock at Vlissingen. The lock at the inner harbour of Vlissingen is 35m wide and depths of 4.8m on the sill. Two further locks are located at the Veere with the larger one being 135m long, 19.3m wide and depths of 7.2m on the sill. The canal has a maintained depth of 6.3m. There is a swinging area for vessels up to 50m in length, longer vessels must proceed stern first to their berth in the basin.

The light is located on a tower, 11m high, standing on the inner end of the W pier at Koopmanshaven (51°26'N., 3°35'E.).

There are 5 bridges between Vlissingen and Middelburg, max vertical clearance of 19m. Normally bridges may open between 0600-2200hrs and on Sun and holidays between 0700-1100hrs and 1700-2100hrs.
