Hansweert (NLHAN)

Hansweert acts as a Customs station for vessels bound from Belgian ports to Dutch ports. The traffic Centre Hansweert regulates all traffic of the outer harbour with traffic on the Western Scheldt. There is a shipyard and floating docks available, next to the quay.

Hansweert (Kaai 85) is situated on the N bank of the Western Scheldt.

Mostly inland vessels, approx 45,000 (lock passages) annually.

Hansweert is approached directly from the Western Scheldt. The entrance to the harbour lies between two stone moles, 79m apart. From a position NNW of the Eendrachtpolder leading lights (51°21.4'N 003° 54.4'E) the route leads 6.5nm in a generally NNE direction through Gat van Ossenisse and Overloop van Hansweert, that part of the main fairway between Pas van Terneuzen and Hansweert, which is marked by lightbuoys and buoys, passing (with positions from Hansweert main Light, red metal framework tower, white band, 8m in height, (51°26.4'N 004°00.6'E): NW of Platen van Hulst (4.5nm SSW), which fronts the E bank. Schore Leading Lights: ..... Description Position Front light: White beacon, red band, 4m 51°27.2'N 003°59.5'E. Rear light: Red metal mast, red bands, 20m 480m NNE off the front light. The alignment 021.5° of these light leads through the central part of Overloop van Hansweert, passing: ESE of Rug van Baarland (3.5nm SE), a ridge, then: W of the entrance to Schaar van Ossenisse (2nm SSW), then: Through Platen van Ossenisse (1.5nm SW) where the route leads round to ENE on entering the white sector (061.5°-073°) off Hansweert main Light, then: SSE of the junction with Middelgat (0.6nm WNW) marked on its S side by "OH-MG" Lightbuoy (E cardinal), then: Out of the white sector of Hansweert main Light to a position S of Hansweert. The Hansweert Locks lie approx 1,700m from the Western Scheldt entrance.

Hansweert West Mole has red fixed light, red metal framework tower, white band and 8m in height and East Mole displays a green fixed light.

Max draught 4.7m at NAP and 4.00m at NAP -1.50m for departing vessels. Off Hansweert Quay there are high tension power cables at a height of 47m + NAP.

Range -2.80m, +3.20m NAP.

There is a vessel traffic reporting scheme in the area which is compulsory and vessels with Hansweert as their destination must report at the following: ..... The Customs allowances are 5 litres of spirits for the total crew and 200 cigarettes for each person. Immigration procedures are carried out by the agent.
