Guaymas (MXGYM)

It is principally an import and export port for agricultural equipment and cotton respectively. Major exports include sulfuric acid, copper, wheat and other regional crops. The port consists of an outer, a middle and an inner harbour, the first mentioned being protected by Isla de Pajaros.

North Pacific Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Mar 1 to Jun 30 and Nov 1 to Nov 30, Summer Jul 1 to Oct 31 and Dec 1 to Feb 28/29.

Guaymas is situated NNW of Guaymas Bay on the E coast of the Gulf of California.

LOA 246.84m, draught 13.71m, beam 42m, 94,191DWT.

Approx 7,200,000t of cargo and 500 vessels handled annually.

Outer harbour: There is good anchorage S of Isla de Pajaros Light in the vicinity of the Fairway Lightbuoy in a depths of 10.0-26.0m, fine sand. Inner harbour: The best anchorage for vessels in the Inner harbour, is 0.5nm W of Isla Morrito, in depths of approx 7.0m, good holding ground.

The access channel is 4.600m long with the entrance channel of 2,500m in length, and depth of 14.0m. Port requires under keel clearance (UKC) of 1.0m in approaches. When approaching Bahia de Guaymas, steer to bring the entrance leading light structures, or their lights, into line bearing 355°, which leads onto the alignment of the leading lights for the middle harbour, which should then be kept in line bearing 316°. These lights in line lead through the dredged channel and towards the S end of Muelle Este. The channel leads NW from a position 0.25nm NE of Punta Baja to the wharves. Leading lights, exhibited from red diamond on metal framework towers, the front 12m in height, the rear 14m in height, situated 1.5nm NW of the E end of Muelle Sur, in line bearing 316°, lead along the channel.

Compulsory. Three port pilots are available from 0800-1800hrs, however pilotage can be arranged outside of these hours if required. Pilot boards vessels from a black and white motor launch approx 1nm S of Isla de Pajaros Lighthouse. Pilots are equipped with VHF. Pilots board in position located in the approx. position - 27° 52.090'N 110° 50.560'W.

Isla de Pajaros Light is exhibited from a white square concrete tower, at the SW end of the island. Punta Baja Light (27°54'N 110°53'W) is exhibited from a white square concrete tower, 5.0m in height. Cabo Haro Light is exhibited, from a white concrete 8.0m in height. There is a signal station at the lighthouse. A radio beacon transmits from a position approx 8nm NE of Cabo Haro.

Range 3.0m.

A tug is available.

Prevailing winds: W'ly in spring, S'ly in summer and NW'ly during winter. Fog occasionally forms in this area but is usually of short duration. Mirage effects are quite common and instances of abnormal refraction have been reported. The climate is very pleasant from Nov-Apr, but is very hot in the rainy season from Jul-Sep.

The following coastal radio stations are recommended: West coast Mexico: International station and Mobile Radio (USA). East coast Mexico: Mobile, Alabama Radio. The stations work throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Pilots: Ch 16, is used to contact the port on arrival.

Allowances for officers and crew do not exist for personal possessions which must be kept onboard. Penalties for non-compliance will result in confiscation of the goods and fines. Immigration: Formalities depend on the nationality of the crew. Nationalities that are not restricted in Mexico can proceed ashore provided they have a shore pass which can be issued by the port agent upon request of the Master. Joining and off signing crew members have to be declared 24 hours prior to the time and date of arrival/departure. Vessel is cleared on arrival and departure.

International Maritime Declaration of Health 6. Vaccination List 7. Ports of Call List 8. List of Ship's Particulars 9. Cargo Manifest, if any 10. Passenger List 11. Ballast Declaration The following are also required: 1. International Tonnage Certificate 2. Load Line Certificate 3. Ship's Register 4. Safety Equipment and Emergency Radio Equipment Certificates Documents are received by the Harbour Master, Health Inspector, Immigration Authorities, Customs Authorities, Agricultural Inspector. There are no special forms for completion.

All ETA's have to be sent 72 hours prior to arrival of the vessel at the port. Additional ETA's have to be sent each 24 hours and 12 hours prior to arrival of the vessel. All messages should be sent during office hours so that the vessel can be scheduled at the Port Programme Meeting which is held daily. The ETA message should include: ..... 1. Arrival draught 2. Number of crew and if healthy 3. Vessel's main particulars such as LOA, GT, beam 4. Flag and port of registry 5. Cargo to be loaded/discharged

Cargo documents have to be in the port in order for the vessel to be programmed.

Pratique will be granted by the Port Authorities once they arrive onboard the vessel. Free pratique is not granted by radio. Vessels arriving from South America have to be fumigated. Ship Sanitation Control Certificates can be renewed.
