Vohemar (MGVOH)

Vohemar is a small port situated in the Baie de Vohemar, an inlet in the coastal reef. The port is used to handle coastal vessels alongside a 100m quay.

Vohemar is on NE coast of Madagascar, 535km N of Toamasina.

Draught 8.1m, LOA 100m.

Approx 60,000t of cargo handled annually.

The entrance channel is approx 160m wide with depths up to 9.1m. During strong SE'ly winds the channel is hard to distinguish as the sea breaks across it.

Currents in the channel attain a velocity of 1.5kts at springs.

Prevailing winds: SE'ly from April to Nov. Jan to Mar winds vary from N and W.
