Tokachi (JPTOK)

Tokachi is an open commercial port which has recently been considerably enlarged. It is also a base for fishing craft which are especially numerous during the summer and autumn, when the South harbour becomes crowded.

Summer.

Tokachi is situated on the south-eastern Pacific coast of Hokkaido.

Max Draught 12.3m, 40,000DWT.

Approx. 1,300,000t of cargo handled annually.

Anchorage is obtainable in depths of less than 20m, E of South Breakwater. During strong W winds this anchorage is used by vessels waiting to round Erimo Misaki.

Draught limitation in the channel is 13.0m.

BA 1800, 1803. Admiralty Pilot NP41.

Not compulsory. Pilots board at Kushiro pilot station.

The harbour limit extends SSE for 2.75nm from the shore, 1.5nm W of the harbour entrance, then ESE to enclose Tomakomai Higashi Ko, then NNE to the shore.

The principal marks in the vicinity of Tokachi include the following: ..... 1. Hiroo Light (42°17'N 143°19'E), exhibited on Hiroo Hana from a white square tower 13m in height. A fog signal is sounded at the light. 2. A television tower, 1.5nm NW of Hiroo Hana, with an elevation of 289m, marked by an obstruction light. 3. A radio mast, marked by an obstruction light, 1.2nm NNW of Hiroo Hana. 4. S Breakwater Light. 5. New Breakwater Light.

Entry or sailing after sunset is not permitted.
