Tagonoura (JPTGO)

The port is located E of Fuji city centre. Main commodities handled include woodchip, pulp, cement, maize and petroleum.

Tagonoura is situated on the SE coast of Honshu, facing Suruga-wan, approx 30km NE of Shizuoka.

Approx 3,600,000t of cargo and 1,800 vessels are handled annually.

The approach to the harbour being deep, steep to and exposed, affords no anchorage; vessels having to wait entry should proceed to Shimizu Ko. In strong S to W winds a pilot, by special arrangement, will board off Shimizu Ko.

Draught limitation in the channel is 9.0m.

Pilotage is not compulsory but available and should be orderred at least 24 hours in advance. Pilot boards in the following positions: A) 35°06.20'N 138°41.00'E (about 2nm SSW of the West Breakwater Light). B) In bad weather inside the breakwater.

The seaward limit of the port is an arc lying 0.2nm from the harbour entrance and intersecting the coast approximately 0.6nm W and E.

A light tower stands at the head of each breakwater. Leading lights are exhibited, in line they bear 323.5° and lead through the dredged channel into Tagonoura Ko. The front light may be obscured when large vessels are berthed alongside the W end of Central Wharf. Front Light from a white round tower (square topmark), 17m in height, situated on Central Wharf at the N end of the harbour. Rear Light from a similar tower, 23m in height, 250m NW of the front light. A red light visible from within the small basin, is exhibited from the S side of the entrance to the basin when a vessel is underway in the entrance channel; a black diamond shape is displayed when the signal light is not working.

Berthing pilots are available throughout 24 hours. The allowable draught should be verified with the agents before arrival as this does vary, the average being 6.5m alongside the berth. The entrance channel has a min depth of 9.0m at all times. Caution: Entry by ocean going vessels requires considerable care as the entrance channel is only approx 100m in width and the harbour affords little room to manoeuvre. Entry or departure at night, or by day with more than moderate wind, is not recommended.

Range, max 1.78m; min 0.50m.

There is 1 tug of 2,600hp available. Tugs are also available from Shimizu port when required.

A NNW wind prevails. In strong S or SW winds a heavy sea sets into the harbour.
