Naze (JPNAZ)

The port is a "Specified Port" used for general cargo. There are also passenger, car ferries and a fishing harbour. The harbour is protected by three breakwaters.

The port of Naze is situated on the NW coast of Amami O Shima, the largest of five islands making up the Amami Gunto group, lying approx 180nm SSE of Kyushu Island.

Approx 780,000t of cargo and 7,800 passenger handled annually.

Outer anchorage clear of the harbour approach channel, to the N of Yagi Shima. Anchorage can be obtained in the harbour, 0.9nm SSE of Tategami, in depths from 24.0-27.0m, mud, except in N winds when rollers may sweep into the harbour. Prohibited anchorage: Vessels are not permitted to anchor either in the centre of the approach channel, or near to Shinko Quay.

From the vicinity of 28°25.4'N 129°30.0'E, 0.8nm NE of Ha Saki, the track leads SSE and SSW passing Tategami Light (white round concrete tower, 9m in height) (28°24.5'N 129°29.9'E).
