Fushiki (JPFSK)

The harbour is protected by breakwaters and divided by an inner breakwater. Main commodities handled include coal and timber. The adjacent ports of Toyama and Shinminato come under the jurisdiction of Fushiki-Toyama Port, see separate entries.

Fushiki lies at the mouth of the River Oyabe in the south western corner of Toyama Bay, on the W coast of Honshu facing the Sea of Japan.

LOA 240.96m, beam 32.26m, draught 12m, 57,803DWT.

Approx 1,180,000t of cargo and 300 vessels handled annually.

Quarantine Anchorage: The quarantine anchorage is situated 0.9nm E of the head of Shinminato Ku East Breakwater.

Draught limitation in the channel is 11.0m. From a position 5.5nm ESE of Otomari Hana (36°58.0'N 137°03.0'E), a course of approx 201° leads towards the outer end of the Fushiki Ku Fairway. The white sector, bearing between 226.5° and 229.5°, of Fushiki Directional Light, (white round tower 19m in height), 0.2nm SE of the East Breakwater, leads through the centre of the fairway passing between No 1 and No 2 Lightbuoys to a position 0.8nm from the harbour entrance.

Brackish.

Not compulsory but recommended. Pilots are available at position 36°49.88'N 137°05.51'E, 209° x 2.5nm from Fushiki Ko W Breakwater Light. Pilotage service also includes Shinminato and Toyama ports.

Lights are exhibited from the head of the W breakwater and from the E head of the E breakwater, which is "T" shaped. A detached breakwater, 0.15nm in length, lies on a NW/SE axis 0.6nm NNE of West Breakwater; a light is exhibited from each end.

Range, max 0.34m, min -0.14m. When the river is in spate the flow may reach a rate of 3-4kts.

Six tugs available, 1 x 2,600hp, 1 x 1,800hp, 1 x 3,000hp, 1 x 1,080hp and 2 x 150hp.

Prevailing winds: SW'ly.
