Chioggia (ITCHI)

Chioggia consist of Island Salons Terminal located on the North and Val da Rio Terminal on South part of the port area. The port mainly handled cement, grains, sodium carbonate, fertilizers, containers, Ro-Ro, steel products and other general cargo. LPG Berth currently closed from operation as the authority rejected Costa Bioenergie application for the concession of the quay area despite tank storage has been constructed.

Chioggia is situated on the Venetian Lagoon and connected to the Adriatic by the Perognola Canal, approx 24km S of Venice.

Max LOA 200m, beam 27m, draught 7m, 20,035DWT.

Approx 900,000t (including 1,700t of grains), 46 TEU and 240 vessels handled annually.

Outer anchorage: Small cargo vessels can find anchorage in a rectangular area centred 3.5nm ENE of Chioggia Lighthouse (45°13.7'N 012°17.9'E), clear of shellfish beds. Small tankers may obtain anchorage in a rectangular area centred 6.75nm SE of Chioggia Light. Larger vessels can find anchorage in the anchorage area situated E of Forte Rocchetta Lighthouse (45°20.3'N 012°18.7'E). Lightering operations: Vessels requiring to work cargo with lighters may anchor about 1.75nm ESE of Chioggia Lighthouse in 12.0m depth. An alternative anchorage for vessels which are lightering cereals, to be used only in favourable weather conditions, is situated about 1.75nm ENE of Chioggia Lighthouse. Both anchorages are under the control of the Harbour Master at Chioggia. Prohibited area: Entry is prohibited to an area of shellfish beds, extending up to 3nm to seaward of Isola di Pellestrina. The beds are marked by yellow buoys and entry is prohibited within a radius of 1,000m of the buoys.

The harbour is approached from E through the designated TSS which leads to Porto di Chioggia, one of three principal entrances to Laguna de Venezia. The harbour can be used by vessels bound via the inland channels for Venezia and elsewhere in the lagoon and up rivers. It is entered between 2 breakwaters, width 550m and depth of 8.0m, extending about 0.8nm E from Lido di Scottomarina and Isola de Pellestrina, through Canale Esterno.

Three mooring buoys are laid in Avamporto SW of Forte San Felice, the property of the Italian Navy; suitable for vessels not more than 220m in length with authorisation for use from the harbour master. Two mooring buoys are laid in Canale Perognola, about 0.8nm W of Forte San Felice, suitable for vessels not more than 150m in length and about 6.0m in draught.

Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over 500GT. Send request for pilots on VHF Ch 16 or 15 to port captain. Pilot boards 1.5nm E of breakwater and is available throughout 24 hours. English is spoken by pilots.

The port limits are 3nm E of port breakwater.

Major Light: Chioggia Light (45°13.7'N 012°17.9'E).

Range 0.9m.

A Traffic Separation Scheme has been established to improve navigational safety in the approaches to the ports of Chioggia, Malamocco and Lido. From a roundabout centred on 45°15.5'N 012°31.7'E, separation zones radiate to each of the ports. The scheme is not IMO adopted, but its use is compulsory for vessels arriving or departing from Porto di Venezia, when within Italian territorial waters. Italian authorities advise that the principles for use of the routing system defined in Rule 10 of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea apply.

A tobacco and spirits allowance is permitted to be held out of bond for each crew member. There are fines for non compliance.

Ships Certificate 3 On completion, any special forms are to be delivered to the harbour master, immigration and customs authorities.

Should be sent by the master to the vessel's agent at discharge or loading port. Additional ETA must be sent when vessel's arrival is delayed. The ETA message must include the date and time of arrival and all other details as per Charter Party terms and conditions.

When a vessel is arriving from a foreign country, it should, on arrival, inform the health authority about the health situation onboard. Radio pratique can be applied for. Ship Sanitation Control and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates can be renewed for 6 months.
