Arbatax (ITATX)

The port comprises a basin bound by quays to the W and S and a breakwater to the E. Principally a timber port, general cargo and other bulks are handled.

Arbatax is situated on Capo Bellavista on the E coast of Sardinia.

Draught 11.7m.

Anchorage is possible close to the breakwater with the pilot's assistance. Launch service is available upon request. Prohibited anchorage: Anchoring and fishing are prohibited in an area, which extends 0.65nm N from the N side of Capo Bellavista.

Approaches: Capo Bellavista is a rocky promontory which, owing to the low land behind it, appears from N or S to be an island. The E side of the cape consists of steep cliffs which should be given a berth of at least 0.15nm. Capo Bellavista Light is exhibited from a white square battlemented tower and swelling, with black bands, 19m in height. An auxiliary light is exhibited from a concrete column with a red lantern.

It is prohibited to use lateral thrusters or stern screws when within 30m of the quayside, due to erosion at the base of the quays.

Available. Entry during daylight hours only (departure throughout 24 hours). Pilot boards 1nm NE of the head of Molo di Levante.

Torre di Arbatax, on the W side of the village, is a grey pillar with a red roof, marked by 2 green fixed vertical lights. A conspicuous white chimney stands 0.55nm W of the tower. A detached rocky shoal with depths of 2.9-5.0m over it lies 0.5nm NW of Torre di Arbatax. The shoal is covered by the red sector of Molo di Ponente Light bearing between 107° and 147°. A light structure marks the head of Molo di Levante which extends 0.5nm NW from the N extremity of Capo Bellavista. A spur which projects W from this breakwater is marked at its head by a white truncated conical stone tower light structure with red bands, 6m in height.
