The approach channel is navigable for 2 (simultaneously) ocean going vessels. ..... Shahid Bahonar: A channel dredged to 10.5m, width 100m, leads from the outer basin to a turning basin, 300m in diameter, for vessels up to 14,000DWT, off the E side of which is the naval basin. Hormozgan Steel Complex: Approached through a 3.7nm buoyed channel from the Shahid Bahonar entry buoy, on 271.3°-272.7° of the white sector of a direction light beacon. Channel and area off berth dredged to 14.0m.

Available, via VHF, HF and Navtex, the area covered for search and rescue is from Long 53°E to 58°E.

Compulsory for all vessels. Vessels are usually boarded about 1.6km off the Bandar Shahid Bahonar breakwaters. The port office requires 48 hours notice prior to arrival. It is recommended that, due to the existence of unlighted and unmanned vessels lying in or near he port approaches, a pilot should be embarked in the outer approaches to the port before entering the anchorages area.

Bandar Abbas Leading Lights (27°09.0'N 056°12.0'E) in line bearing 000° lead between the breakwater heads and through the narrow dredged channel to the commercial basin; this alignment should be strictly adhered to. The front light (metal framework tower, red and white bands, daymark a red triangle, point up; radar reflector) is exhibited at the N end of the commercial basin. The rear light (metal framework tower, red and white bands; similar daymark and radar reflector) is exhibited 500m N of the front light. Note: It has been reported that the leading light structures are difficult to distinguish until within 0.25nm of the harbour entrance; correct positioning for the approach, however, can be determined by observing the line of the wharves within the commercial basin.

MHWS 3.7m, MHWN 2.9m, MLWN 1.5m MLWS 0.6m. Caution: Prolonged periods of wind from N or NE can reduce sea level by as much as 1.0m.

The following refers to the Vessel Traffic Service (VTS): ..... 1. The position of embarkation and disembarkation of pilots regarding Bandar Abbas Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) is 2nm from the port's turning beacon. 2. Any vessel coming from the E side of the Strait of Hormuz or the Gulf of Oman and proceeding to the port of Shahid Rejaee or Shahid Bahonar should, 1 hour before entering the TSS (Area A), contact the Vessel Traffic Centre (VTC) authority on VHF Ch 13 to get permission to enter the traffic lane of TSS (Area A) between Larak and Hormuz Islands. 3. Any vessel leaving the port of Shahid Rejaee or Shahid Bahonar and proceeding to the Gulf of Oman should pass the turning beacon on the port side of the vessel and continue its course through TSS (Area A). 4. Any vessel coming from the Persian Gulf and proceeding to the port of Shahid Rejaee or Shahid Bahonar should, 1 hour before entering the TSS (Area B), contact the VTC authority on VHF Ch 13 to get permission to enter the traffic lane of TSS (Area B) between Qeshm and Larak Islands. 5. Any vessel leaving the port of Shahid Rejaee or Shahid Bahonar and proceeding to the Persian Gulf should pass the turning beacon on the port side of the vessel and continue its course through TSS (Area B). 6. All vessels in the TSS region should keep watch on VHF Ch 16, and the speed limit will be 12kts.

Foreign vessels entering Iranian territorial waters and during their stay in Iranian ports, must always display the Iranian flag in the forepart of the vessel.

Free pratique should be applied for, prior to arrival, on VHF Ch 16. All crew members should be in possession of valid Vaccination Books. Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates will be issued and renewed by the Port and Shipping Organisation.

NOR should be tendered to the port authority and other concerned parties as per the owner's instruction, or Charter Party, on arrival.
