Jakhau (INJAK)

Jakhau Port is operated by Goodearth Maritime Ltd and is a seasonal lighterage port, barges come from Mandvi and must be ordered in advance. The port export bulk of salt and clinker. The port is closed during the summer months because of the monsoon.

Arabian Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Sep 1 to May 31, Summer Jun 1 to Aug 31.

Jakhau is located in Kutch District, in NW India.

Anchorage: Approx 50,000DWT.

Approx 9,200,000t of cargo handled annually.

Good anchorage, used by vessels calling at Jakhau Harbour, may be obtained 5nm SW of the entrance to Godia Creek in approx 9.0m, bottom mud. Distance of anchorage from shore is about 6.4nm.

Because of the nature of the coast little is visible until the vessel approaches the charted 10.0m depth contour; at night or in thick weather a vessel should not proceed further until sure of its position. Three beacons on the sandspit, S of the entrance to the creek, are useful to a vessel approaching from S; those on the N side are useful for anchoring. The channel length to the barge loading berth is about 4nm, with a width of 150m at the port mouth and depths from 2.6m to 10.0m.

Jakhau light is exhibited from a tall circular concrete tower, painted red and white chequers, standing 1.75nm within the entrance to Godia Creek on the S side. A radio mast, with an elevation of 76m and marked by a red obstruction light, stands 11nm E of Jakhau Light tower.

One vessel can be worked at the anchorage at a time.

Range approx 3.0m.

Tugs and launches are available from Mandvi.

Prevailing winds: SW and NE monsoons.

Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for each crew member per week. Immigration: Immigration officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China (mainland) will not be issued with landing permits.

Local port health officer grants pratique after boarding vessel.

To be tendered as per terms and conditions of Charter Party. Generally, NOR tendered by master on vessel's arrival advising that vessel is ready to load/discharge the nominated cargo.
