Kupang (IDKOE)

Tenau Kupang is situated on the W coast of the island of Timor.

LOA 219.21m, beam 30.8m, draught 9.6m, 19,980DWT.

Anchorage may be obtained during the SE monsoon in a depth of 18.0m, 0.25nm NW of the main lighthouse. An area of foul ground lies close E of this anchorage. In the NW monsoon it is advisable to anchor further out in a depth of 33m. With a heavy sea, anchorage may be obtained in the N part of the bay near Pulau Burung, or off Hansisi.

The approach channel is wide and deep, giving easy access to ocean going vessels.

Fort Concordia Light (10°10'S 123°33.3'E), a white metal framework, tower, 11m in height, stands on the W entrance point to Kolok Kupang. Tanjung Toddeh Lighthouse, a white stone pyramid, 3.0m in height, stands on the point 0.5nm NE of Kupang.

There are 2 tugs of 150hp and 400hp available.

Radio: It is recommended to use Jakarta Radio for passing messages at long range, callsign "PKX". Working hours are 0000-0400hrs UTC on 8542kHz and 0000-1200hrs UTC on 8752kHz. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Ch 16, 14 and 12. Callsign "PKK".

Immigration: All crew members must have a valid travel document. Crews from communist countries are not allowed to disembark whilst in port.
