Rhodes (GRRHO)

Rhodes consists of a Commercial Port (Acandia) and a Tourist Port. The port's principal traffic is cruise vessels. There is also a quay at Kolonos Harbour that handles small passenger/ Ro-Ro vessels.

Rhodes (Rodos) is situated at the N end of Rhodes Island, in the Aegean.

LOA 380m, beam 60m, draught 11.0m.

Approx. 720,000t of cargo handled annually.

Anchorage may be obtained off Rhodes, S of the prohibited anchorage. The bottom consists generally of sand, but in places there are small patches of better holding ground. In fine weather it is possible to anchor off the inner mole and secure stern to the mole. Stern lines are taken to masonry pillars, which serve as mooring posts, standing on the E side of the mole close N of the 3 windmills. Prohibited anchorage: Anchoring is prohibited N of a line drawn in a 095° direction from the conspicuous aquarium on Akra Mylon. Caution: The anchorage off Rhodes is unsafe during N, NE and SE winds. Shelter may be obtained: During NW winds, in the anchorage approx 2nm N of Akra Voudhi (36°23.0'N 028° 17.0'E). During SE winds, in Ormos Trianda (36°26.0'N 028°13.0'E). During N winds, in Marmaris Limani (36°50.0'N 028°16.0'E).

Pilotage is compulsory for all foreign vessels. Pilots can be contacted on VHF Ch 12 and usually board 0.8nm from the harbour entrance. Vessels should send an ETA and a request for a pilot 24hrs prior to arrival and confirm request 1hr prior to arrival.

Kastro Agiou Nikolaou (36°27.1'N 028°13.7'E) conspicuous fort with white light 6m high. Windmills (3) on inner mole. Ayios Angelos Tower, 27m high on central mole. Clock tower in old city. Akra Loimokathartiriou Light, metal framework tower, 1.25nm NNW from fort.

Strong winds from N or NE may make entrance difficult or impossible.

Range 0.3m. Levels are raised by S'ly and lowered by N'ly winds.

None.

Tug of 1,500hp is available.

Olympia Radio ("SVA") receives distress or urgent messages and public communication (working channel). Watch frequencies VHF/FM, 2182kHz and HF/DSC as follows: MF 2187.5kHz. HF 4207.5kHz, 6312kHz, 8414.5kHz, 12577kHz, 16804.5kHz. Heraklio, Limnos and Corfu Radio for general watch calling frequencies. The stations work throughout 24 hours. Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1 bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each. Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EU nationals there are no Immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia and South American countries. Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must show to the authorities, agent's guarantees are also requested by various authorities.

Master's Declaration that all electrical items, not sealed, and other goods will remain onboard. 4. Master's Declaration for bunkers and cargo onboard. Special forms exist for all documents but apply only to liner vessels. These are delivered onboard on arrival.

ETA should be sent via the agent upon departure from the previous port and then 48hrs, 24hrs and 12hrs and 1hr prior to arrival. ETA message should include the following: - Vessel particulars. - Cargo information. - Dangerous cargo on board and details (if any). - Health information. - Stowaway details (if any).

Pratique should be applied for on arrival and cannot be applied for by radio. Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates renewed.

Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between 0800-1700hrs.
