Lavrion (GRLAV)

The port is protected from E winds by the Island of Makronisos but is not considered safe in S winds. The port handles general cargo, containers, ferries and can also handle cruise vessels.

Lavrion (or Laurium) lies in Egasteria Bay, S of Piraeus on the Greek mainland.

LOA 130m, draught 6.1m.

Approx 2,200 vessels, 42,400t of cargo, 12,500TEU, 44,800 passengers handled annually.

Lavrion has a bottom of mud but the holding is indifferent. A foul patch lies approx 0.275nm SSE of Akra Ergastiria. Better anchorage may be obtained in Ormos Thorikou (1.25nm N).

From the vicinity of 37°42.0'N 024°05.5'E the approach leads WNW passing: SSW of the rocky reef with a depth over it of 5.5m (0.15nm SE of Akra Ergastiria Light). Caution: The SW side of Lavrion should not be approached within about 0.1nm on account of hulks and obstructions fronting a shipbreaker's yard.

Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1 bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each. Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EU nationals there are no Immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia, and South American countries. Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must show to the authorities, agent's guarantees are requested by various authorities.

Master's Declaration that all electrical items, not sealed, and other goods will remain onboard. 4. Master's Declaration for bunkers and cargo onboard. Special forms exist for all documents but apply only to liner vessels. These are delivered onboard on arrival.

Initial ETA to be sent to vessel's agent on departure from last port. Additional ETA's to be sent 48, 24 and 12 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent. One hour prior to arrival, port authorities, pilot and agents should be contacted by VHF giving exact time of arrival. The ETA message should include: Ship's particulars, cargo information, dangerous cargo (if any onboard, with details), health condition and stowaway details (if any).

Pratique should be applied for on arrival and cannot be applied for by radio.

Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between 0800-1700hrs.
