Kalymnos (GRKMI)

The harbour is protected from the SE by a mole approx 0.2nm in length. Good shelter is afforded, even during strong N winds. Some swell enters during strong W winds. Depths are generally from 6.0-8.0m, but the NW side of the harbour is shallow. The bottom consists of mud and weed, the holding is uncertain. The port handles dry cargoes, passenger and fish. There are limited facilities.

Kalymnos is located at the southern end of Kalymnos Island, approx 175nm ESE of Athens.

Anchorage in depths of 22-37m, mud, sand and weed, can be obtained in the approach to the harbour.

The harbour is entered by passing: NE of the head of the mole (36°56.9'N 026°59.5'E). A light (white concrete column on pedestal, red band) is exhibited at the head. Then, SW of a lightbuoy (0.3nm NE) marking the seaward end of a submarine pipeline extending 130m from the shore in front of a power station.

Kalymnos is subject to violent squalls during strong N winds.

Olympia Radio ("SVA") receives distress or urgent messages and public communication (working channel). Watch frequencies VHF/FM, 2182kHz and HF/DSC as follows: MF 2187.5kHz. HF 4207.5kHz, 6312kHz, 8414.5kHz, 12577kHz, 16804.5kHz. Heraklio, Limnos and Corfu Radio for general watch calling frequencies. The stations work throughout 24 hours. Inmarsat communication is possible. VHF: Ch 12.

Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1 bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each. Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EU nationals there are no Immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia and South American countries. Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must show to the authorities, agent's guarantees are requested by various authorities.

Customs authorities (two copies of each): 1. Ship's Stores List Declaration 2. Officer's and Crew's Personal Effects Declaration 3. Master's Declaration that all electrical items, not sealed, and other goods will remain onboard. 4. Master's Declaration for bunkers and cargo onboard. Special forms exist for all documents but apply only to liner vessels. These are delivered onboard on arrival.

Initial ETA to be sent to vessel's agent on departure from last port. Additional ETA's to be sent 48, 24 and 12 hours prior to arrival to the vessel's agent. One hour prior to arrival, port authorities, pilot and agents should be contacted by VHF giving exact time of arrival. The ETA message should include: Ship's particulars, cargo information, dangerous cargo (if any onboard, with details), health condition and stowaway details (if any).

Pratique should be applied for on arrival and cannot be applied for by radio.

Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between 0800-1700hrs.
