Syros Island (GRJSY)

The port handles general cargo, passenger cruise and fast ferries. It also provide bunkering service.

Summer.

The port of Syros is located on the E side of the island.

Approx 26,500 passengers handled annually.

Prohibited anchorage: Anchoring is prohibited in a submarine cable area E of the N part of the harbour. Outer anchorage: Vessels may obtain temporary anchorage S of a line joining the starboard hand breakwater light and the N coast of Gaidharos The anchorage is exposed to N and SE winds and in strong winds, vessels are advised to anchor S of N. Gaidharos. Inner anchorage: Anchorage may be obtained within the harbour entrance, taking care not to obstruct the fairway. Owing to the weedy nature of the bottom, the holding is poor and the anchorage is unsafe even in moderate winds.

The passage SW of the islet has a navigable width of 0.5nm and a least depth in mid channel of 20.0m.

VHF: Ch 12 Pilotage is compulsory. Syros Pilot is arranged via agent, ETA should be sent 1 hour prior to arrival. Pilot boards 0.5-1nm of harbour entrance.

The port limits are 1.0nm from the port or at anchorage.

Lighthouse on N. Gaidharos. Harbour entrance: A light is exhibited at the end of each breakwater. Akra Kondoyiannis Light (metal framework on pedestal) 0.42nm SE.

When manoeuvring in the S part of the harbour it is necessary to keep NE of a lightbuoy, 0.37nm WSW, marking the N side of Ifalos Karfomeni.

Range 0.4m.

There are 4 x 1,200hp tugs available.

Customs allowances: Each officer and crew member is allowed 1 bottle of spirits and 1 carton of cigarettes each. Immigration: Immigration authorities issue crew passes. For EU nationals there are no Immigration procedures. There are special regulations for nationals of countries such as Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovakia and South American countries. Crew being repatriated to non European countries must have a ticket which the agent must show to the authorities. Agent's guarantees are requested by various authorities.

Vessel's ETA should be sent 24 hours prior to arrival and any significant change should be sent 4 hours prior to arrival. The ETA message should include: Vessel's particulars, cargo information, dangerous cargo (if any onboard, with details), health condition and stowaway details (if any).

Vessels are required to fly the Greek National flag.

Pratique should be applied for on arrival.

Can be tendered anytime but will only be accepted between 0800-1700hrs.
