Isle of Whithorn (GBWHH)

The port handles fishing and leisure vessels. The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Isle of Whithorn is located approx 2nm NE of Burrow Head on the Solway Firth.

LOA 66m, beam 7.5m, draught 5.0m.

There is anchorage in the bay S of the pier in depths of 6.0m, sand; S winds bring in a heavy sea.

The harbour is entered from S on the alignment (335°) of leading lights (metal masts; orange diamond daymarks) situated close together at the head of the bay. Vessels should give a wide berth, particularly on the out going tide, to Screen Rocks, 2 small detached reefs which dry, lying at the W entrance to the bay and sector light on mainland at Cairn.

Saint Ninian's Tower, a white structure with buildings nearby which is conspicuous from seaward except from SE, stands on the summit of Isle of Whithorn peninsula near its SE end.

Range 4.0m (dry out). A tidal stream sets towards Screen Rocks during the out going tide.
