North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Newlyn is situated on the S Cornish coast.

LOA 99m, draught 6.4m.

Anchorage for vessels waiting to enter Newlyn Harbour can be obtained (positioned from Newlyn S Pier (50°06'N 005°33'W): 0.3nm SE in a depth of 7.0m. 0.7nm E in a depth of 15.0m. 0.9nm ENE in a depth of 12.0 to 13.0m. It has been reported that the bottom of the SE of the harbour was fouled by trawler wires. Anchorage in Penzance Bay is sheltered from all winds except those between SSW and SE. Winds from this exposed quarter send in a heavy sea against which few vessels could ride at anchor were it not for the powerful undertow which increases with the strength and duration of the wind and enables ships to ride more easily.

The harbour is approached through Penzance Bay, which is entered between Carn-du (50°04'N 005°31'W) and Cudden Point, 5nm ENE. The harbour is entered between two piers.
