The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. Drying harbour, channel is buoyed and lit. Normally active fishing fleet.

Kirkcudbright is located from the mouth of the River Dee.

LOA 67m, 1,500DWT, draught 4.5m.

There is anchorage in Ross Roads, between Little Ross and Torrs Point, but S winds cause an uneasy swell. Vessels which can take the ground can find shelter in Ross Bay, sand, 0.5nm N of Little Ross, or in Manxman's Lake where bottom consists of sandy mud.

The bay is entered between Gipsy Point and Little Ross. Leading marks: Front mark (white pyramidal beacon) (54°46.1'N 004°04.9'W) Rear mark (lighthouse) (0.12nm SSW of the beacon). The alignment 201°, astern, of the beacon and lighthouse leads over the bar into River Dee. Vessels should pass between the lifeboat house, from where a light is exhibited and No 2 Lightbuoy (port hand), then pass between the lightbuoys marking the navigable channel to the port. Cautions: The buoys are moved as necessary to conform with changes in the channel. The characteristics of the lightbuoys and minor shore lights should not be relied upon.

Vessels are swung before berthing.

There are no authorised pilots for Kirkcudbright. The Harbour master can arrange local advice if requested.

Sawmill, conspicuous on Gibbhill Point (54°50'N 004°04'W). Little Ross Lighthouse (54°46'N 004°05'W) and beacon standing on Little Ross at the W entrance to the bay.

Availability of berth, dependent on fishing fleet activity. Above No 17 Lightbuoy there is a speed limit of 5kts.

Springs: 0.8m to 7.5m Neaps: 2.4m to 5.9m
