The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen. The port is used by fishing vessels and leisure craft only, although access is difficult, the harbour does afford safe anchorage.

Dunbar is situated at the E end of Tyne Sands.

Safe anchorage is obtainable in Castle Bay except in N'ly winds.

Approach by leading lights bearing 198°, (Oc G 6s) through channel between Skart Rocks.

When the wind is strong from between the WNW through N to E, the harbour is difficult to enter and the berths may be untenable due to a heavy swell in the harbour.
