Charlestown (GBCHF)

The port is entered through a single lock which gives access to a dock possessing 4 berths. The harbour provides accommodation for small coasters and sailing ships (largest, barque 450t). The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

Charlestown is located on the SW coast of England.

LOA 57m, beam 9.5m, draught 4.2m and 1,200DWT.

Ships can anchor off the harbour in depths of 2.0-6.0m, good holding ground of firm sand. Holding moorings, for small craft up to 15t, are available at LW approx 0.2nm S of the harbour wall. At HW vessels wait in the outer harbour.

Compulsory for all vessels over 37.5m length except those exempt by law. Fowey Pilots available 2 hours before to 1 hour after HW. Pilot normally boards within 1nm of the entrance in a position arranged with the vessel, but may board anywhere within an area contained by the lines of longitude through Polmear Island (50°19.7N 004°45.4'W) and Landrian Point (004°44.7'W) and the line of latitude 50°19.5'N. Seaward boundaries are a radius of 1.5nm from the port.

Vessels enter 2 hours before HW to 1 hour after HW (if contacted before HW, 1 hour). Night movements are not allowed.

There are no tugs available.
