Loctudy (FRLOC)

The port consists of a broad quay on the S side of the river entrance and 2 basins entered W of the quay via a channel dredged to 3.0m CD The port is mainly used by the fishing industry and recreational craft. The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

Loctudy is located approx 37nm WNW of Lorient at the opening of the Pont L' Abbe River which flows into the Bay of Biscay.

Max draught 4.0m.

Vessels, awaiting a berth at Loctudy, anchor in position 1nm W of Le Taro Beacon Tower (W cardinal). Numerous small craft moorings, including several with white buoys for visiting yachts, are laid up river from the vicinity of the entrance to the basins.

Pilotage is provided by Brest with the compulsory pilotage area bounded by the following: ..... 1. N limit: Lat 48°31.4'N 2. W limit: Long 005°15.5'W 3. S limit: Lat 48°00.0'N The area also includes L'Elorn River up to Landerneau and L'Aulne River up to Chateaulin. Vessels of 50m in length or more in the Grande Rade and in the port. b. Vessels of 100GT or more in L'Elorn and L'Aulne Rivers up to Landemeau and Chateaulin. c. All vessels carrying hydrocarbons, gas or dangerous substances. d. Towed vessels whose overall length exceeds the lengths mentioned in (1a) above. e. Commercial vessels on entry and on departure from port areas reserved for the Military (Navy). 2. Vessels should send request for a pilot 48 hours in advance of ETA at the Charles Martel Lightbuoy (48°18.9'N 004°42.1'W) through the agent stating: a. Vessel's name, callsign and nationality b. Draught c. Cargo 3. a. Twelve and 3 hours in advance of ETA at the waiting area S of S Mathieu through Brest-Le Conquet ("FFU"). b. Three hours in advance of ETA at the waiting area S of S Mathieu by VHF to Vigie de Saint Mathieu (Semaphore Signal Station). Vessels should call the pilot vessel direct on VHF before arrival at S Mathieu. Pilot boards as follows: Brest 1. In good weather: In position 48°18.2'N 004°41.0'W 2. In bad weather: Pilot vessel positions itself in front of the vessel, guiding it to the Rade de Brest where the pilot boards. The pilot can also board as follows: 3. Anse de Camaret 4. Between Pointe du Portzic and La Cormorandiere (48°21.7'N 004°31.7'W). If the pilot vessel is not available, the vessel should obtain authority to enter the Rade de Brest and anchor 0.5nm SW of the Passe Sud Light (48°22.2'N 004°29.4'W) at the entrance to Rade Abri (Port Militaire). Outbound vessels must request pilot 2 hours before ETD and before 1800hrs for departure between 2000-0600hrs the following morning.

Speed limit in the port is 3kts.

Mean spring range 4.2m; mean neap range 2.0m.

Customs allowances: For each crew member 200 cigarettes and 1 bottle of spirits. Heavy fines will be incurred for non compliance of these allowances. Visas are required for non EC citizens, who wish to join or leave the vessel. All passengers to be declared, separate from crew.

Notify agents or pilot station of ETA 12 hours prior to arrival.

Speed limit in the port is 3kts. Pleasure craft are advised not to enter or leave the port whilst the fishing fleet is returning to harbour between 1700hrs and 1900hrs.

Request for pratique to be made on arrival at the berth. Renewal of Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificates is possible.
