Le Guildo (FRLGU)

The port is a small tidal harbour for sailing activities. The port is closed for commercial operations. Information for the port is retained should the port reopen.

North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Le Guildo is located on the River Arguenon approx 68nm SSW of Cherbourg.

LOA 55m and draught 7.5m.

The channel leading to the port is approx 0.1nm in width and dries 7.6m. Baie de l'Arguenon is entered from seaward keeping W of the drying reef to the W of Ile des Hebihens 48°37.5'N 002°11.3'W then through the channel which is marked by a beacon (port hand) and two buoys (lateral) and passes W of La Heronniere, a rock marked by a beacon (isolated danger) standing 2nm SSW of Pointe du Chevet. The channel is subject to frequent changes, marked by a beacon and two buoys and passes W of La Hetronniere, a rock marked by a beacon (isolated danger), and should not be attempted without local knowledge. The harbour is about 180m wide at HW.

Pilotage is compulsory for vessels over 45m in length, carried out by St Malo Pilots. Mariners must give at least 12 hours notice of their ETA in order to arrange pilotage. Local knowledge is required.

Night navigation not permitted.

Mean spring range for Saint-Cast (48°38'N 002°15'W) approximately 10.6m and mean neap range 5.0m. Tidal streams: In the approach begin as follows: ..... Interval from HW Saint Helier Direction Off Pointe de Saint-Cast -0540 SSE -0515 NNW Off Les Bourdinots -0540 SE -0040 NW The maximum spring rate in each direction is 2kts off Pointe de Saint Cast and 2.75kts off Les Bourdinots 48°39.0'N 002°13.0'W. Off Pointe de Saint-Cast, although the SE-going stream begins at the same time as off Less Bourdinots, it runs for approximately half an hour only, and the NW-going stream begins approximately 4.5 hours earlier than that off Les Bourdinots. In Bale de l'Arguenon, when the passage between Ile des Hebihens and the land is covered, the stream runs continuously SW.
