π§ Navigation Information
Anchorages
Anchorage can be obtained off the entrance to the port in an area SW of Banc de Trouville, and SE of Semoy Lightbuoy (E cardinal) moored 2.5nm NNW of the entrance, and E of Trouville SW Lightbuoy (W cardinal) moored 1nm WNW of the entrance. There are depths from 2.0-3.0m, sand and mud, NE of the alignment of the leading lights, and sand and shell SW of that line. The anchorage is untenable in strong onshore winds.
Approaches
Directions: Leading lights indicate the approach channel; the front light (white tower, red top, 11m in height) is exhibited from the head of the E breakwater, and the rear light (white metal framework tower, red top, 15m in height) from the root of this breakwater at Pointe de la Cahotte. Bring the light structures into line, bearing 148Β° which lead up to the entrance channel. Caution: A suction dredger, with spoil pipes attached, may be encountered in the approaches to Deauville. Harbour entrance: The harbour entrance is protected by rubble training walls which cover at HW; the W wall extends NNW from the outer end of the angled breakwater which protects the yacht harbour at Port Deauville, and the E wall, parallel but shorter, extends from the E breakwater. The walls are both marked at intervals by beacons, those on the W wall are green, and those on the E wall are red. The channel leading into the harbour is bordered on its E side by a breakwater and on its W side by a jetty. The channel dries 1.2m at its N end. Entrance is difficult with fresh onshore winds, when the sea breaks in the channel. The best time for entering is at high slack water. Dredgers are frequently at work in the channel. The channel is also frequently maintained by sluicing, except in mid-summer. When this is being undertaken blue flag is hoisted 24 hours in advance at the entrance to the wet basins.
