Merikarvia (FIMER)

The harbour is owned by the Municipality of Merikarvia and is operated by Finnforest Sawmill, Metsa Fibre (Merikarvia Sawmill).

Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.

Merikarvia is a located on the W coast of Finland, between Pori and Vaasa to the S and N respectively.

Max LOA 114m, beam 20m, draught 4.5m.

Approx 22,000t of cargo and 8 vessels handled annually.

Vessels with a draught of 7.3m may obtain anchorage in the outer roads, 2.5nm NW of Brando, in a depth of approx 10.0m. The inner roads, close SE of Brando, is well sheltered from all winds and can be reached by vessels with a draught of 3.4m. Anchorage may also be obtained 0.5nm S of Iso Truutinkari (61°51.5'N 021° 24.4'E).

Merikavia outer approaches: Local knowledge is necessary for vessels proceeding from seaward to the inner approach channels. Hiidensilta is an extensive group of dangerous offshore shoals including a rock (61°53.2'N 021°15.9'E) awash; buoys (spar) mark some of the patches on the perimeter of the group, including the W-most, with a depth of 4.5m over it, 4.25nm WNW of Stakki. From seaward, a buoyed channel authorised for a draught of 4.5m, leads E towards Kasala passing N of Hiidensilta, then SE to the outer roads anchorage; vessels approaching from the SW may use a track authorised for a draught of 4.5m, passing S of Hiidensilta, and NW of Rahikari, the W-most buoyed shoal of a rocky bank with a least depth of 3.6m over it, 2nm SW of Stakki, then NNE on the Malskerinluoto/Malskeri Leading Line mentioned later. Kasala Front (61°56.5'N 021°21.1'E) and rear leading lights (elevations 15m and 31m, red rectangles, yellow stripe) approx 0.25nm apart; in line 088°, they lead in from seaward, passing close S of two buoyed shoals with depths of 7.8m and 6.7m, respectively, approx 4.25nm and 2.5nm W of the light structure. Merikarvia Light (61°55.8'N 021°16.8'E) (red mast with two white bands, elevation 16m, Racon) stands on the small islet of Kasalan Storbada, 2.25nm WSW of the mainland at Kasala. Kummelgrund Front (61°56.8'N 021°21.2'E) and rear leading lights, in line bearing 032°, mark a buoyed branch channel, authorised for a draught of 2.4m, leading NE to Kasala Fishing Harbour. Truutinkari Leading Lights (elevations 12m and 30m; red rectangles, yellow stripe) the front (61°51.6'N 021°25.9'E) and the rear on an islet 1.25nm SE, are in line 137°; they lead approx 6nm SE through the outer anchorage to the Rimpikari leading line. Malskerinluoto Front (61°55.1'N 021°20.8'E) and Malskeri Rear Leading Lights (elevations 7m and 20m; red rectangles, yellow stripe; the front with radar reflector) approx 0.5nm apart, are in line 028.5°. They lead NNE in the alternative 4.5m approach, passing between buoyed shoals NW of Karvian Ourat, to join the Truutinkari leading line (above). Merikarvia Inner approaches: Rimpikari Leading Lights (elevations 17m and 24m; red rectangles, yellow stripe) the front (61°51.5'N 021°27.8'E) 1.25nm W of Merikarvia Church, and the rear close ESE of the front, in line 111° lead ESE for 0.75nm from the Truutinkari leading line. Then the buoyed channel is further marked by leading lights as follows; Landgrund Leading Lights: (red rectangle, yellow stripe) 61°50.8'N 021°27.7'E, in line bearing 147°, leads 0.5nm SE; Jukola Leading Lights: (red rectangles, yellow stripe) 61°50.8'N 021°28.1'E, in line 135.5°, leads 0.75nm SE; and rounds the S end of Brando to the anchorage close SE of the island; Raasi Leading Lights: (red rectangles, white stripe) 61°51.3'N 021°25.7'E, in line bearing 291° astern. Manunkallio Beacon (elevation 8m; white mast, yellow bank; radar reflector) stands close NE of the fairway, 1nm WNW of Rimpikari Front Light structure. Entering the channel from the S. From a position approx 0.3nm E of Iso Enskeri (61°41'N 021°22'E), on the Arvekari leading line of the Pori to Malskeri inshore route, a channel leads ENE and then N for approx 11nm towards Merikarvia. The narrow and tortuous channel, suitable only for use during daylight is marked by buoys and leading beacons and joins up with the alternative inner channel into Merikarvia at a position 0.7nm S of Iso Truutinkari (61°51.5'N 021°24.4'E). The channel is authorised for a draught of 3.6m until it joins the alternative inner channel into Merikarvia where it is reduced to 3.4m. Entering the channel from the SW. From a position 5.5nm NNE of Porin Majakka Light (61°42'N 021°14'E) a channel, authorised for a draught of 3.6m leads ENE off the Pori to Malskeri inshore route on the following line: Peipunkari Leading Lights: Front light (red rectangles, yellow stripe 61° 48.8'N 021°25.0'E). Rear light (similar structure) 1.0nm ENE from front light. The alignment (075°) of these lights leads ENE for approx 3nm to join the S approach channel into Merikarvia at a position 3nm SSW of Iso Truutinkari (61° 51.5'N 021°24.4'E)
